I was somewhat anxious to go here because most Steak N Shakes have been declining in quality over the years. I only came here because I had a gift card with no expiration date that was given to me decades ago, and finally decided to use it so I could throw it away. However, I found that I will be coming back often after such a nice experience.
Inside, the counter is strictly set up with multiple of those giant screen kiosks. This is the only way to place an order, if going inside and not through the drive through. I was happy to see this, because it makes for a very simplistic and precise way to order.
(I was also pleased to see a â$4 and Underâ section on the menu. Who wouldnât be?)
After tapping the button to send the orders to the kitchen, we sat in one of the many clean booths. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the place looked at the time of my visit. Nothing about the store seemed icky, old, or abandoned. Even at the soda fountain area, it was clean and organized. I was surprised at how comfy yet lively it felt.
Another important thing to note is that the music over the speaker wasnât obnoxious. It added to the atmosphere, making it comfortable, but it could be tuned out if desired. This is sooo important to me, because annoying music will drive me out of a place quicker than anything elseâespecially when I feel I have to talk over it!
I jumped when a friendly lady brought me my milkshake. I only saw two women in the kitchen, but they seemed like they had great attitudes, and they gave off the âvibeâ that they actually cared about what they were putting together. I really appreciated that.
I was shocked at how quickly the milkshake was prepared, I had literally just sat down. It was ADORABLE-looking, and I couldnât wait to try it. Not only did it look presentable, but it was just perfect. So thick and creamy, just sooo good. I throughly enjoyed it.
At this point, I was forgetting I was in a Steak n Shake. I was enjoying myself so much, because I was comfortable and the milkshake was TOO GOOD and everything was clean and the staff appeared to be great people, etc. Something about this all was beyond enjoyable!
The food came out in perfect timing. They call out your name over the speaker, and have you pick it up at a counter. The other woman slid our orders to us and was very sweet. I like how she made it herself and then gave it to us right away. It reminded me of my mom serving me food HAHA. It was so cute.
The presentation of the food was, again, very nice. The fries were crispy and hot, and abundant as well. The burger was arranged carefully, despite my adding of every topping..
I am not even a burger-enjoyer to begin with. BUT, something about this particular one was DELICIOUS. It was cooked perfectly, and I believe the patty itself was seasoned well with something. This made it far better than any other restaurantâs attempt at a burger, even a place that is âfancierâ than a Steak n Shake. I was beyond impressed at this point. Also, the tomatoes were bursting with flavor, and the lettuce was giant and green. The quality of it was very satisfying to me.
I had such a great time here, there is no question of whether or not I will be back. OF COURSE I WILL! I now feel bad for previously having low expectations of Steak n Shake.
I truly hope this location stays, because it clearly is doing something right..I just do not think people realize how nice it is until they have a reason to go: like me!!
Lastly , I want to make sure it is clear that it was probably those two women who made the experience so nice for me that day. They seemed to have a motivation to do a great job, and so they did. They deserve to be acknowledged...

Placed an order on the SteaknShake app for curbside pick up on Wednesday 5/25 at 1pm. Google maps and app says they were open. Drove to the store to find out they were closed. App didnât show the location was closed, and it accepted my mobile order. Unlike other fast food places where it wonât accept your order if the location is closed, this steak n shake location accepted my order and said to check in when you arrive. Once there and discovered that they are close, I tried to cancel my order, but when I looked in my app, it shows the order was completed. The appâs âcontact usâ portion is basically a feedback form. No phone numbers to call to talk to a person. Nevertheless, I submitted a feedback form but never heard anything. Tried to call the locationâs number several times and no one would pick up. I figured, since I never got my order, maybe the charge on my account will fall off. Two days later, my bank account cleared a charge for the steaknshake order. Since there is a phone number showing on the transaction charge, I called that number only to get an automated answer saying their customer service is unavailable. So I went back to the store, this time they are open, and talked to the worker, only to be told they donât handle that and to reach out to the number on the app or third party for a refund. I explained that I ordered thru their own app and not door dash or any third party app . She kept insisting to call wherever I placed the order and request a refund. I ordered thru their own app and there is no phone number or any other way other than the feedback form!!!! And every possible way of reaching out to them have been unsuccessful. It is so frustrating. I will be filing a claim with my bank for this unauthorized charge that the store refuses to help solve. I know this location has been struggling, and I always try to support any way I can. But when this is the experience you get, it makes you want to avoid it all together and spend your money...

Every, single, time I order food from Steak n Shake, whether it be in person or through their horrific mobile app, it is wrong consistently. This store being the worst of the worst. Today's order was the tipping point, I ordered through their "brand new" mobile app that was renovated recently. I ordered simply a triple burger, with remove cheese and nothing else selected. By default, their app lists tomato, ketchup, pickles as optional, and I did not select them. My food arrives, burger has the works on it, tons of pickles (gross). I call the store, and they say that's how they make them. I explain to the store owner that their new mobile app does NOT have that as default, which she wasn't aware of....like come on. How do you own a business and not know how your own mobile app functions? I ask for my burger to be refunded as I had to throw it away, she refuses. I ask for a new burger to be delivered, she refuses. She says to call the number on the app for help, their app lists their store number, which she also didn't know. She writes my name down and says if I want my food, I have to drive there, doesn't apologize, just complains about how long their line is and says "what do you want?". I will have no sympathy when this store finally closes just like the one on Highway K in O'Fallon did recently.
