When we came in, the host sat us down and told us to look at the menu on a QR code. Our server took a long time to take our order and did not greet us or offer us a drink menu which wouldn't have been a problem if he hadn't been greeting his other tables and giving them menus for drinks. We ordered the tonkatsu spicy ramen and Florida roll. The Florida roll was supposed to have spicy mayo but it came with regular mayo instead of what the menu says. I ordered a second roll and had to ask for spicy mayo next time even though it was supposed to come like that. The tonkatsu was so flavourless that we asked for more spice and it did little to enhance the flavour. When he finally brought it, we said thank you and he didn't even respond. The way we were treated was the worst we've experienced since moving near Boystown. Our server was not around half the time so we were wondering if we would even have the chance to ask for anything else. We watched him pick up someone's random kid and have an entire conversation with those customers instead of tending to his tables. Someone else refilled our drinks and brought us our check and then he came by to give us our receipt. We understand the importance of making a livable wage so we tipped our server 20% despite everything. If you're considering going out to sushi and you're Black, don't go to Amore. Somehow the being in Chicago's proudest neighbourhood means nothing to their wait staff. We know exactly why our service was bad. After watching the tables of white people right next to us be waited on, there's no other explanation than the staff being racist towards my girlfriend. I was not a fan of the food but the service was the last straw and determining factor that I will never return.
As a side note, there was one guy who brought us our check and even held the door for us on our way out. We never got his name, but we still wanted to thank him for treating us better in two minutes than our server did in the entire hour...

After moving away a couple of years ago, we recently came back to visit friends and decided to stop in for a nostalgic Sunday lunch at our once-favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, what we found was nothing like what we remembered.
The place was completely empty — not a single diner in sight, which should have been our first red flag. We tried to sit at two different tables, but both were sticky and had crumbs on the chairs. We looked at each other and asked, “Do we even dare eat here?” Against our better judgment, we stayed.
Service was lackluster from the start. We had to flag down our server, who was busy on his phone at the front counter. We ordered edamame, crispy tofu, and pot stickers — but when the food arrived, it was swarmed with gnats or fruit flies. We kept trying to shoo them away, but they wouldn’t stop circling the food.
We asked for soy sauce, which never came. The edamame was mealy, the tofu wasn’t crispy at all, and the pot stickers were soggy.
Overall, the experience was incredibly disappointing. It feels like the owners have simply given up on this place. What was once clean, warm, and high-quality is now dirty, sticky, and insect-infested. Very sad to see such a decline in a place that used to mean...
Read moreQuite literally stumbled in on this place after a day of drinking with my out of town friends. I'm usually never this far north so while we were walking around the area we all kind of turned around and was like this seems good. Well to our pleasant surprise everything was yummy. It is BYOB so that was a plus and whole foods is right across the street. The only thing was that it took our server about 10 minutes to come and take our order (we were almost ready to leave) but since it's new I'll take it as they're still figuring things out. The rolls were yummy and we enjoyed everything. If I'm ever in the area I'll stop by again but in the meantime if you're in the area definitely check it out. The owner Ronald did come out after me and my friends to say thank you for visiting and he hoped to see us again as well as asking for our input on the experience. Which doesn't happen often so it was refreshing to see an owner really want to make sure the experience was great.
TL:DR yummy food, great neighborhood BYOB spot and go...
