My partner loves the food, but I'll keep my comments on the shopping process so others can plan their visit. All the baked goods are arranged in the windows. Most offerings have placards with allergy warnings since they know their customers have a variety of reasons for seeking out gluten-free goods. Wave at them and someone will come out. I went there at about noon on a Thursday, and I took a long while to decide, but others came and left within 5 minutes.
There seemed to be 3-4 people who took orders, but maybe there's more at busier times. It wasn't super busy when I was there. Everyone I saw was wearing a K95 mask except one person who was wearing a cloth mask. And since no customers are allowed in the shop and all orders were taken outside the shop, I felt very safe and was glad the workers were relatively safe. If I'd realized this was how they were doing things throughout the pandemic, I would have come back sooner!
The only critique I have is that there were no prices posted on the paper sign or the placards. You can ask for prices, but the person I spoke to said they'd have to go get the price list inside. I said that wasn't necessary, but I do feel like they should be more transparent about it by posting a list outside.
When they took my order, they wrote the order on paper then came out with the food and a card reader. I don't remember if they told me the total before I paid, but I kind of think they didn't. I used a card, but I did witness someone use a phone to pay). They asked if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then they confirmed the email they had in their system (I don't know how they got my email though, but it must be something with whatever broader system they use), and I received the email receipt right away. The receipt had the individual pricing and total. I got 6 things and paid $26.63 with tax. The lemon ricotta cookie was $2.50, and everything else (a selection of bars and other individual items) were a range between...
Read moreI went in today 04/01/2022. Now, this isn’t my first time going to Defloured but this experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. I was in line and had let other people go before me because I wasn’t ready. Mind you, this is a predominantly white neighborhood and I am Mexican. So okay whatever, people order their stuff and everyone gets charged with the card reader brought out to them. I order next, the lady who took my order was white and after I place my order she says to me “I need a credit card” okay doesn’t seem like a big deal but what honestly irked me is the fact that every person before me had the card reader brought out to them so why wasn’t I given that option? I brush it off and just give it to her assuming she’ll bring it out when she gives me my order but I was incorrect. She brings out my order and gives me no receipt, nor a total of how much my things were. I ask her “what’s my total?” She replies, “oh it’s 15.00 something” I look at her like…okay what else? LOL. She then replies “do you want me to email you a receipt?” I thought she was going to ask me for my email address but she didn’t so I say no. People are going to think I’m overreacting but I don’t care I just think it was strange why I was the only one whose card got taken INSIDE the establishment without having my total said to me, nor a receipt of some kind. I wanted to leave a tip but I couldn’t even do that. Next time I’ll just ask for the nice staff that...
Read moreI absolutely love this bakery! It’s completely dedicated to being gluten-free, with awesome dairy-free and vegan options as well. While they offer some year-round staples, they also make seasonal treats, which is great because you never feel left out during the holidays.
Everything tastes just like the real thing—none of that crumbly or weird texture you sometimes get with gluten-free or vegan items. They have all the sweets you could want, from cookies, cakes, and pies to savory items like quiches, pot pies, and pizza slices. Plus, they sell frozen goodies that you can bake at home. For holidays, they even have gluten-free gingerbread, along with delicious pies like pumpkin, apple, and cranberry. They also offer Irish soda bread and challah bread, which are perfect for the season.
One important tip: be sure to * preorder your goodies* because this is a small business, and they sell out often. Preordering guarantees you'll get exactly what you want! There’s so much more I haven’t even mentioned, so check out their website for the full menu. I’ve never been disappointed with...
