The decor is very clever and it's a nice, small restaurant feel. We ordered a rice bowl, a tornado potato, and a miso soup. We showed up about 7:30pm and it took the food probably about 15 minutes or so to come out. None of the food came in any order. The people who ordered two orders after us got all their food first. The table next to us ordered before us and got their food about the same time. None of the waiting would have mattered if it was because the food was hot and being prepared, but the rice bowl and potatoes were all cold. It was all fairly bland. The miso soup is basically soy sauce soup. The customer service was awkward at best. At exactly 8:00 we happened to be done eating. As we were leaving, we heard them telling the other guests they needed to leave because they were closed...it was 8:02. At no point during ordering did anyone suggest we should consider not ordering or warn everyone that they were closing soon. I don't usually write reviews like this but to survive in this neighborhood, they're going to have to try harder to keep paying customers. Based on the other reviews it may have been an off night or maybe you shouldn't go in the last hour...

I was excited to see a katsu curry shop open up near me and decided to order takeout. I tried the pork black katsu curry and a katsu bowl. It was prepared quickly and I picked up my food with no issue. The food was okay, I have had better katsu at other Japanese restaurants in the city. There was nothing that would make me crave ordering from here again. The portions were small and the salad was flavorless.

I was more disappointed that the drink I ordered was not included and that my katsu bowl did not come with any sauce. I feel like these little details are very important for a new business to get right especially when they weren’t busy. I called the following day to request a refund for my missing drink. I was told that my refund would be addressed at the end of the day and I would receive a call back. I never received a call back and I never received a refund. I eventually had to dispute the charge on my...

If you love crispy golden fried „Katsu“ , this place is a must-visit! You can enjoy the deliciousness of authentic Japanese tonkatsu in a casual atmosphere !

This time, we only ordered pork dishes, everything was so delicious—katsu sandwiches, Katsu rice bowls, and katsu curry rice. The thickness of the cutlet was something I’ve rarely seen, even in Japan—so thick and satisfying! The pork was it tender, wrapped in a perfectly crispy golden panko crust. Freshly fried, it was amazingly yummy ! Surprisingly, there was no greasiness at all. The variety of sauces to choose from was a great touch!

They also have chicken and shrimp on the menu, which we’re excited to try next time. My teenage daughter was also blown away by the matcha milkshake! Definitely...

My first time at katsu-shack was a delicious success. I HIGHLY recommend this spot if you want an authentic katsu sando or ebi sando. My buddies and I went for lunch and we all got different dishes (ebi sando, katsu sando, katsu bowl, traditional set). We were all very impressed by the quality of the ingredients - especially the meat and bread. The Japanese style bread (shokupan) was soooo good and made of quality that is very difficult to find in the US. The meat was juicy and the shrimp tasted very good with their mayo sauce. The inside of the shop was inviting and had plenty of place for my bigger group. Also loved the Japanese cubs jerseys on the walls. Katsu-Shack NAILED it. We will be back!

Katsu is not as good as one would expect. While the katsu is crispy, pork is much less tender than one would expect. I was met with a big chunk of gristle in my second bite, and apparently the pork chop is not treated properly to either remove or tenderize the gristle, which is extremely hard to bite through. In addition, the center part of the chop, the lean pork, is more stiff than one would expect. The price is not too bad. The pork chop plus rice and miso is $16.45 pre tax/$18.14 post tax. There’s less than half of the katsu I’m showing in the picture, and I believe the whole pork chop is over 1/2 pound. I’ll leave to you to judge if this is overpriced or not. 3/5 so-so
