Bread and Sauce has the feel of an old REM album. Yes, good music is playing inside the place, but moreover the thoughtful and intelligent appointments to the decor only nod to the amazing energy and cate put into the menu and the ingredients. You know when a person makes a sandwich where the ingredients and thoughtfully applied and care is taken so that each bite has the same tasty experience as the others that a place cares about consistency. The tomato was in season and local. You can even buy some rather amazing flavors of hot by Co-Op such as Ramp Finishing -This rich and classy sauce is packed full of sustainably harvested wild ramps for a deep silky finish for all of your grilling and sauteing needs. And to close… There is nothing left to throw Of ginger, lemon, indigo Coriander stem and rose of hay

Unique place! Looks like a hole-in-the-wall deli and then you are greeted like family. Pastries are out of this world, light and delicious. Gourmet sandwiches delight the palate and please the eye. Lox sandwich on a chewy homemade bagel has a perfect balance of herbs, cream cheese, cherry tomatoes and capers and comes out looking like a work of art. House hot sauces come in an amazing variety of unique flavors from delicate to flaming, all delicious. Local beer is on tap to wash it down. I'm sorry we missed the crawfish boil yesterday. Next time we are in Chicago, we will make a special detour to Sauce and Bread. Love you guys!

It's a cute spot with a promising menu. I tried the whitefish toast and the topical things like the fish/capers/ creamcheese..all great but i will say for a spot with BREAD in its name..i thought the bread was the most lackluster part of the dish. Thick, not well toasted and dry. It didn't serve the ingredients well. I'm still excited to try more things because the menu does look 💥 I will also say the service was a bit offputting. Dude at the counter really isn't a people person. One word answers, bothered, not willing to give suggestions or communicate and the food took long to come out.

I stumbled upon this place over a year ago with my bf because we went to donate blood close by and we needed food right after. This is seriously one of Chicago’s greatest gems. The food is 12/10 every single time, the first time I was there we ordered sandwiches and the woman making our food went outside, literally plucked herbs or veggies from their garden and came back inside and went in the back to the kitchen to finish what she was doing. Like, what?? Unreal. The baked treats are fn delicious and don’t even get me started on the sauces. They have everything from mild to the hottest of the hot and they’re ALL SO GOOD. I can’t even really handle super spicy things but I’ll eat food with their hot sauces because they taste so damn good. Also the people that work there are so nice and down to earth and it’s really refreshing being able to walk in somewhere and not feel rushed and have the people working the counter make you feel valued for coming in. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Thank you for existing SBK!! 🫶 Also, for all the mild sauce kings and queens, make sure you come when they have their ramp sauce in season around May-June, it’s my favorite and I put it on literally everything: eggs, chicken, flank steak, etc. I bought a whole case and I’m almost halfway through with it and they won’t have it available again until...

My first time there was last Friday (3/MAR/2017) . They were getting ready to Host a Fundraising Event . I met Mike (Owner / Master Chef - Incredibly Thoughtfull & Inventive) .

Before I go any further this Man prepared , 4 - Unique & Tasty Personal size Pizza's . The Deal (For the Evening) was , for $15.00 you get some of this New Age Pizza Concoction . And some goes to the Benefactor De Jour (He does these Fundraiser's Often) .

I read in dnainfoCHICAGO earlier Friday about the Restaurant and Fridays Event . That drew me in , I had to check out the Restaurant with such a Cool A _ _ Name ! Also , a Business Model , Vested in the Community that made it Irresistible !

Let me Back Up a little , to the Pies . I'm embarrassed I can't remember any of the Ingredients , of those Tasty Morsel's . I remember this , most of the toppings weren't normal pie condiments . Except that Crust ! That crust was a Hybrid Thin & Thicker pizza foundation . So , much so , I'd go back just to Gorge on the Crust - De-lish !

Not a very big Venue , extremely Clean and Friendly , good...

This review is LONG overdue! TLDR; run, don't walk to SBK!! I've been enjoying Sauce & Bread Kitchen for years and can't say enough great things. Their food is incredible and inspired - the house made breads and pastries are perfect and their menu is full of unique delicious offerings made with quality ingredients. I was never big on fish and for some reason decided to try the Troutmaster (everything else I'd tried had been great, so why not?!). I've become a smoked fish fiend - it's now my go-to and I even replicate it at home. The coffee is also delicious - I get it iced with a dash of the simple syrup (which I think might be infused with cinnamon and cardamom? - so good!) and oatmilk. YUM! They also turned part of the dining area into a market during the pandemic - I love to browse all the interesting items including their housemade sauces and other local products! On top of it all, they couldn't be nicer people. Everyone is always so kind and helpful....
