Went here for my birthday dinner. We love French cuisine and I am so glad we found a French restaurant near Arlington Heights. D & J Bistro did not disappoint, everything from them returning your call after you left a message to make reservations, to just the overall dining experience. For starters, the have a very attentive and extremely friendly wait staff. Doesn’t your meal simply taste better when it’s served by a super nice waitress? They have an extensive cocktail and wine menu (try there martinis), delicious choices of appetizers as well as there entrees. For the appetizers we tried both the escargot and the foie gras respectively. The escargot was right on point, but I will say it’s the foie gras that had my bouncing on clouds. My mouth is drooling as I’m writing this and remembering the experience. Very creamy texture, the taste to die for, you just need to experience this yourselves to grasp what I’m talking about my fellow foodies. For dinner I had the braised lamb, very tender, the kind where the meat easily falls off the bone, very well made. My girlfriend had the duck special (Le Canard Roti Aux Cerises) I tried a little, it was both tender and crispy simultaneously. The soufflé was very good as well. Just so you know, they have there own in house pastry chef, so the desserts are made in house. As an added touch to the evening, since it was my birthday, they graciously brought our table an assortment of various sweets, so nice of them! There you have it. If you’re out in the NW suburbs like ourselves and If you’re in the mood for French cuisine, you no longer need to take the hour trip to the city when you can have a touch of Paris right here in Lake Zurich.

This is my second time dining at this charming bistro. The atmosphere is effortlessly casual, yet the menu is thoughtfully designed to complement a good glass of wine. From indulgent oysters to rich river pâté, the appetizers set the perfect tone for a delightful meal. The risotto is expertly prepared, and the salads are bursting with freshness. The skate steak delivers bold, deep flavors that pair wonderfully with a glass of red wine, while the ribeye—tender and perfectly enhanced by its sauce—was a standout. The special halibut dish is light yet generously portioned, making it truly satisfying. To end on a sweet note, the passion fruit cheesecake strikes the right balance between tart and creamy, pairing seamlessly with coffee. And if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll find an enticing selection of desserts to explore.

Went there a while back with my wife for the first time to check it out because we’ve been in Lake Zurich for years and heard so many good things about the food so we thought we’d give it a try. Upon entering on a Saturday night around 845. We thought we would avoid the biggest part of the dinner crowd and get a table. The manager was extremely rude and dismissive. We asked if we could have a table and he said probably not. We then asked if we could hang out at the bar and see if a table opened up soon and he responded with something to the effect of you can give it a shot but you probably won’t be getting a table. We hung out about an hour or so and then he never even approach us. My mom and said something similar about this place as she came here with a church group for years until one lunch where they rushed the whole group out. Of the way to bring main courses. Not sure why everyone loves this place so much because people leave existing businesses for one primary reason – an attitude of indifference. 68% of customers say they leave because someone within that establishment has been so rude that they are never coming back. This is the group that I will fall under.. Another stat of interest is that customers tell negative customer service stories to 5 to 10 people for 10 to 20 years. That’s exactly what I’m doing now. All I could think of when we left is. I’ve heard French people can be rude and this guy just solidified that. Terrible manager and...

I have dined at D&J several times. The food was always good, however ownership is rotten. On my last visit I broke a tooth because their New York Strip had a sharp piece of bone that got jammed into my tooth as I took a bite. I only ate a quarter of my steak when this happens. The owner came out and didn't believe me that I broke my tooth. He demand to see a piece of my tooth that broke off. Luckily I still had a piece of my molar in my hands so I showed it to him. He ended up taking it from me to show it to his dentist to make sure it was really a tooth. How rude is that? Not only was I treated rude, but I was also presented with a full bill. I ended up paying for a steak which I only ate a quarter of on top of paying $800 to repair a broken tooth. The owner didn't do anything to keep me as a customer. A month later I got a call from his insurance company that said that they can't process the claim because they can't be responsible for what's inside the steak since the restaurant doesn't cut the steaks, but simply cooks them.

I will never go to this place again, and will recommend all my friends, neighbors, and co-workers to stop...
