We were really looking forward to trying The Peach House in Lakeland, but the experience was disappointing from the very beginning.
Our waiter took our drink order and then disappeared. He walked past our table multiple times, taking care of another group, but never brought our drinks or even acknowledged us. After 20 minutes, my wife had to go inside and let the bartender know we hadn’t received anything. She also wanted to make sure she could still get a happy hour drink before 6pm. Even after that, it took another 6 minutes to get our drinks.
When the waiter came back, he tried to drop the drinks off and walk away again without taking our food order. My wife stopped him so we could finally order. Another 20 minutes passed with no updates. We looked at each other wondering if the soup and salad would arrive before the entrees. A few minutes later, someone we hadn't seen before came to the table and silently dropped off just my burger. Nothing else was brought, and they didn’t ask any questions or say a word.
I finished eating my burger before our original waiter came back. When he finally did, he admitted he didn’t know why the rest of the order hadn’t been placed. We then waited another 18 minutes for the rest of the food... a salad, soup, and shrimp creole. The shrimp creole came with six very small shrimp and cost $19, which just added insult to an already frustrating situation.
At no point did our waiter check in to see how the food was or ask if we needed anything else. No drink refills, no follow-up, nothing. After we finished, we sat waiting over 20 minutes just for the check. My wife went back inside to see where he was, and eventually he came out and apologized for the poor service. He told us we didn’t have to leave a tip, but by that point, the damage was already done.
Three other staff members came to our table during the night, and not one said a single word to us. If one of them was a manager, they certainly didn’t act like it. For a $66 meal, the lack of attention and accountability was really disappointing.
We left frustrated and let down. A simple acknowledgment from a manager or even a little effort to make things right could’ve turned this around. Sadly, that...
Read moreWow! What a great addition to the Lakeland food scene! I was thrilled to attend one of the soft opening dates, and was impressed with the impeccable attention to detail throughout the entire experience.
The food was delicious! Our group of 7 tried a verity of items, and highlights included the mussels, raw oysters, burger, and bread pudding. Nothing we tried was bad, these just stood out as real "wow" dishes.
The drinks were also impressive, as you would expect from the team that brought us Revival. Many of their specialty drinks have a tiki flair. I tried both the Dragonfruit Margarita and the Banana Painkiller, and both were perfect and delicious!
The service was exceptional, which was especially impressive during the soft opening period where people are still learning. While we had one specific server, we were visited by many servers, bussers, and managers through the evening to ensure everything was going well.
The atmosphere was light and refreshing, with whimsical touches throughout the restaurant, and a very Florida/Key West/tropical vibe.
The price point was very reasonable, especially given the exceptional quality. The specialty drink menu is $13 and food prices ranging from appetizers for $9 to oysters for $30/doz. Most of the sandwiches were in the $14 range. I was excited to see they will be having a happy hour from 2-6 Tu-F, with a special menu of $8 drinks (both of my drinks came from that menu, even though they weren't doing happy hour during the soft opening).
Overall, super impressed and excited to have this excellent new addition in Lakeland. Can't wait to return to try more things...
Read moreThe constant cocktail shaker noise was irritating but I get it. The venue has a plethora of “mocktails and cocktails.” My jambalaya was pretty good, loaded with sausage and three bits of dried out chicken. Thank goodness for sauce! The spice level was appropriate but the plate came barely warm. My husbands meal of shrimp creole was bland, not hot and skimpy. We both feel the bread should’ve been either a crispy baguette or at least crunchy French bread. But that’s the restaurant choice to serve a soft bread. We are accustomed to crunchy bread at French or creole restaurants. We spent $27 on six oysters Rockefeller. That was definitely a waste. The topping on three of the oysters were minus any spinach at all, the topping on all of them were not much more than butter and Parmesan cheese. Lemon was served on the side. And as a cost saving measure, I’m sure, every lemon in that house was a third of a slice, just a chunk. I guess that’s OK But it would’ve made the oysters Rockefeller only slightly better cause they were tasteless. A huge disappointment when one is expecting a stellar dish when priced at $27. I ordered a cocktail, which is unusual because I don’t drink alcohol. It was tasty but minus alcohol! We paid the price for an alcoholic drink, but did not get alcohol! Maybe that was a good thing. We did mention bland barely warm food to our waitress, but she seemed very disinterested.
A $90 meal and an evening wasted, except to know that we will...
