Only half a star to the host and hostess that greeted us. Came here for our anniversary after hearing about this place for years. Walking in, the host and hostess have masks on but wait - it's below their noses!!!š” I almost wanted to turn and walk out on our reservation. I'm a high risk individual and this was my first night out in months, after much careful consideration! I thought I could count on this upscale place to provide comfort and protection while we are taking this risk. The layout was tasteful and they were seating people with respect to social distancing guidelines, so there is that. We were instantly seated and greeted with menus and waters. Ordered muscles as an app, they were spicy, and tasty, if you happened across a good one. There were several we just didn't eat because of the quality of the meat inside. We ordered our meals and some drinks. My specialty cocktail was pretty bland, he liked his old fashioned. Prime Rib for him and Chicken Milanese for me. Anyone know milanese? It's a VERY thin cut of protein, VERY THINLY breaded. Firstly, the idiotic hostess which her mask still below her nose delivers my meal. I ALMOST rejected it right then and after tasting it, I should have! The chicken texture was like a McDonald's mcnugget and twice as thick, and the breading was so thick and bland and greasy, I could barely stomach the two bites I had. This was literally the second dish I have ever sent back in the history of my life, ever. The other time was because of a food allergy. The second dish was roasted chicken with potatoes and veggies and it was pretty tasty. The seasoning on the chicken with that sauce was definitely way more flavorful. That sauce is drinkable! My boyfriend's food was good, well cooked and not over-seasoned. We also ordered the risotto which was definitely worthy of the third star. Our server was extremely gracious as I was obviously uncomfortable to send back food and she was kindly reassuring that I should like what I'm eating. Back to the hostess, ran into her in the bathroom- MASK DANGLING FROM HER MOUTH BY THE STRING! I just about had it and tried to avoid having to interact yet she just had to ask how things are and I cannot ignore my manners to tell this lady what I really think about her lazy disrespect. The crowning jewel, besides our gem of a server was the bread pudding. Would go back solely to order that to-go. I'm already salivating, thinking about it. Overall, not worth the price point or the drive from Thornton. Pretty disappointed after...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNeither my friend nor I had been to 240 Union in many, many years, but we were in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. Most restaurants that date to 1989 tend to be tired and set in the past. Not 240 Union (despite the least creative name ever)! The space looked great, the service was impeccable, and the food was delicious.
I remember the small shopping strip that 240 Union anchors as very old and sad. It has been completely transformed with a huge investment by the landlord into a state-of-the-art destination with a steel facade and massive stone pillars. I was shocked.
The interior of the restaurant is a huge space, but nicely divided into several private rooms, a large, rectangular bar set at an angle to the left of the entrance, and a huge, permanently enclosed front porch (this may be a new feature as I don't remember it). The main dining area is broken up by a series of large, polished hardwood dividers/sculptures reminiscent of the Rocky Mountains. There is a huge open kitchen at the back of the dining room.
Service was friendly and very efficient. Our entrƩes came out in record time although we had arrived at the peak of lunchtime and the restaurant was almost half full. I had the farfalle with lobster, sweet corn, mascarpone, lemon zest and chives. The waiter came by to grind on fresh parmesan. The portion was large. Every item was cooked to perfection and the flavors were fantastic with a delicate, delicious sauce. My friend had "chicken tetrazzini" spaghetti with criminis, peas, sherry, parmesan, and breadcrumbs. He was equally complimentary about the quality of his dish. We both took home bulging boxes of leftovers.
We really enjoyed ourselves and are eager to return. Do be aware that this space is all hard surfaces and can get very noisy with a large crowd. There is a nice concrete ramp leading straight from the parking lot to the front door for those who are handicapped.
Unfortunately, things deteriorated when I attempted to eat my leftovers. For some inexplicable reason, 240 Union took my beautiful plate of food and jammed it into a Chinese restaurant-style cardboard box. These boxes are not recyclable due to the coated cardboard. I ended up with a congealed block of garbage that was impossible to reheat. What are these folks thinking? There are lots of recyclable or compostable take home containers in which you can nicely lay out a fancy plate of food. I was really looking forward to my leftovers. What a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWanted to love this place because of the reviews we saw. Upon arrival, no one greeted us. Once we were noticed we were whisked to a table - never asked how many in our party and no mention of the reservation. Fine~ I let her know we did have a reservation in case they needed to clear it from their system and no one else was joining our party. We ordered the mussels appetizer and was brought a bowl with at least half of the mussels shells broken. Our waitress was quick to take them back and ask for another bowl. The chef argued so loudly with the waitress that I could hear from my table him saying that happens to mussels when they cook. UNACCEPTABLE! He should be fired. That bowl should have NEVER went out to a customer and there definitely should NOT have been an argument in front of the entire restaurant as their kitchen is open style. I went over and let him know that in fact, they do NOT get cracked and broken when they cook! We cook and eat them regularly at home. The second bowl of mussels were gritty (obviously not cleaned properly) and only 2 broken shells. A member ( I believe of management) brought the replacement mussels and said they were on the house. I ordered a medium rare ribeye special and received a very rare steak (ie blue). They did cook it a second time and it was sub par. My husband ordered the Spaghetti Frutti de Mare. It had cracked mussels and overcooked shrimp. Not at all what we were expecting for my husband's 63 birthday meal. We were so disappointed that we didnt even want to try the dessert. Now, the flavors of the sauce on mussels and spaghetti were good. The drinks and bread were good. Brittani our actual waitress was attentive and apologetic with the issues and she is the only reason for the 2 stars. We will not be back. Should have made the drive across town to Barolo Grill where the service and food is impeccable. We also noticed the chefs on their phones and standing around, which would have been a non issue had our food been good. One was even eating right on the chef line. Not...
