Really glad I checked the reviews out before I came here for dinner with my family. I made sure I made a reservation, even though it was only a few hours beforehand. It made a big difference and my family and I were able to skip ahead and get seated before many other parties. The Black Angus locations near my house rarely are busy, so we were surprised by the business that this location seemed to have. My mom really wanted to be seated in one of the booths, but they only had a seat at the bar location, right next to a big loud party that a company was having...
Service was okay. The waitress seemed a little listless and tired, and would forget items that we would ask for. But she was really nice and came by to check on us a few times.
As for the food - we usually always take advantage of their dinner coupons, namely the Campfire Feast for 2 where for $41 you get 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. Really worth it when you compare to other steak restaurants. However, I remember when these coupons used to be 2 for $25 - prices have been increasing! And less and less items on the menu seem to be available.
We opted out of the sampler (too many fried items) and chose the shrimp cocktail and the terriyaki steak lettuce wraps instead. Both were really good choices. The shrimp cocktail was a very light and refreshing appetizer, with jumbo shrimp and good cocktail sauce. The steak lettuce wraps are reminiscent of the Asian styled lettuce wrap dish, but with a twist in the salsa and in the teriyaki flavor of the steak along with mushrooms. I really recommend this appetizer!
For the entrees, I chose the rib eye where I had to compensate $3, while my family had prime rib and BBQ chicken and ribs. I think the rib eye was the tastiest out of all the dishes. It was a pretty hefty cut, with really tender and juicy meat that was cooked quite perfectly. (Comparable to other steak houses that I have been to!) The prime rib was okay, but I'm not too big a fan of prime rib in general. And the chicken was really dry and the ribs were just decent with the sauce being a little bit on the saltier side than I'd have preferred.
The sides are always good, too. I really like the wedge salad, but that salad is huge! Along with free bread, you will be pretty full by the time the meat comes. The other salads look tasty as well (especially Caesar), but I'm a big fan of blue cheese on the Wedge! The rice was decent, but being a person who eats rice every single day, not a side dish I would eat. My sister really liked the broccoli, especially with the melted parmesan cheese slices on top. The fries were just okay. Green beans were a bit too salty. I ordered a baked potato, but ended up eating that for lunch the next day. And always remember to try their bread. It comes with soft butter, so when spread onto the warm bread - really tasty!
Desserts - this time there was a seasonal new dessert of butter shortcake with a berry drizzle and scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was my favorite. Usually we get two chocolate desserts, but eating a cake that has a slightly sour berry drizzle made it easy to scarf it all down on top of a huge meal because it wasn't too sweet. The cake was decadent, but also light - and didn't taste entirely of butter to make me regret it after ordering it! Eating it with the berry drizzle and vanilla ice cream ... wow, best dessert ever! And of course the big mountain chocolate fudge cake. Super decadent, creamy, rich. We each ate like one bite before taking it home. Cake, fudge, ice-cream ... after steak? Maybe in a few days! Eating that right after is way too much! :P
tl;dr - Great Black Angus experience at this location. Really liked the atmosphere (more people, more chatter, more spirit = better food!) and the service was decent. Upon leaving, the manager made sure we enjoyed our visit and the food. That definitely makes a difference and shines a better light on the restaurant. Food was great! Definitely will consider Lakewood if I'm ever in the area and searching for a...
Read moreWe've had way better experiences here. Very disappointed with our service and meals tonight. We were seated promptly, given the holiday weekend and time of day. It took a while for our server to come to the table. We knew what we were going to order and placed our order. Waters were brought to our table. It took a while for our apps to come out and even longer for our meals to come out. I had the ribs, mashed potatoes and broccoli. For whatever reason the moist towelette was shoved into my mashed potatoes! We had to send back a steak that was not cooked as requested. One plate was supposed to have fully loaded mashed potatoes and had a baked potato. No offer was made to correct this order. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes for the steak to come back to our table, meanwhile our other meals became cold. I had to catch another server to request refills on our drinks and she appeared to be bothered by our request. She proceeded to refill my drink over my purse which was on a chair. Not very smart and so disappointing. When our server finally came back we asked for our check, boxes and our dessert to go. Our check had to be corrected since the steak came back with no mushrooms. The person who brought the check seemed annoyed by the request to have this charge removed. Not going to pay for something I didn't receive! The check finally came back, for a second time and we had to wait, again to get my card back. The guest across from us were also waiting. We handed our checks off to another person, who handed it to another person that handed it to our server ! So many other workers just standing around but not wanting to help! We loved coming here and had great experiences with Ben. Not sure if we'll be coming back ...
Update-06/08/2023 Finally decided to come back and try our luck. I spoke with Orlando the manager who was more than helpful and gracious to honor an email follow up from their previous manager. He was very more than willing to fix our last experience. Our server was Citlali. She was very friendly and attentive. Our appetizers and entrées were perfect! I have to say they went above and beyond to make sure we had a better experience. A1 service! 6 month since our last visit and a new manager made a HUGE difference. We will...
Read moreThis used to be our go to for Fathers Day every year, not anymore. Not after this fathers day. We had a party of 10. It took forever to get drinks at first., We has a young girl as our server. We were there for more than a half hour before even getting bread. She took our appetizer orders, but said she didn't want to take our orders yet. Took a long time to get appetizers. Finished those and wanted to order. I understand it was busy that day. But we kept seeing people come and go and get served before us. No one would come to our table. Then she finally came and said I'm leaving and he will take over for you now. So then we had a young guy that still took long to take our order. We were there at least an hour and a half before our order was even taken. No one came to clear plates from appetizers or anything. It was as if we were invisible. So we asked for a manager, well he came to the table along with the waiter and said he will help you now. So no concern at all on his part. We couldn't believe a manager would have no regard what so ever. When we finally got our orders and some things were wrong the server was argumentative and would say no you ordered this way. I have never had that happen where I knew what I ordered and was told that was not what I said. Okay! Then he went on break and they sent someone else to help us, Finally this guy was great but way to late and for a quick minute. Our bill was over $500 and I can't see paying that much to be treated less than. This was the worse experience ever. By the way Prime rib was way over cooked and had to send it back. My son actually ate his since he was so hungry. We were there over 3 hours and that was just to eat, not like we were just hanging out. This is just summing it all up. There is way...
