Following another round of PT, it was off to do ranch errands. Per the rules, breakfast had to come first.
Our first stop was tiny, packed, with no open tables, and a line at the counter with people waiting to order, until a table opened, so we decided to come back another time. The next two places, while calling themselves cafes, were drive through espresso stands, which we found irritating and misleading. They may have the best coffee in town, but we will not be patronizing them, based on calling themselves restaurants when they had no seating whatsoever.
One more search and we “settled” on the Moon Rise Cafe. What a gem of a find!!! They are located in a strip mall, at the very south end of Lakewood Town Center, west of the Lakewood PD.
We parked right in front, walked through the door and were warmly greeted by BayLee who told us to pick a table. While small, there were several tables and it did not feel overcrowded.
They serve breakfast and lunch only. They also serve espresso. I decided on a salted Carmel mocha. It arrived in a gigantic oversized real, not paper cup, with a nice topping of whipped cream. Ray went boring and had regular coffee, but it was good too.
We told BayLee it was our first time so she made a few suggestions. I had the meat lovers omelette with home fries and homemade biscuit. Ray had the sausage, onion, mushroom and feta, with home fries and wheat toast.
Our food arrived quickly. It was hot and made to order. The home fries are not out of a bag. They were hand cut, crispy and seasoned well. Their biscuits are gigantic, homemade, light and fluffy. I do a lot of cooking and baking. My biscuits are like hockey pucks, regardless of what I do, but I make killer pie crusts. Go figure.
Both of our omelette were stuffed full of ingredients. They were well seasoned but not over salted or overbearing.
Baylee checked back with us often to make sure all was OK. Our meals were more than OK. She even boxed our leftovers to take home. Talk about excellent and friendly service!!!
This place was quite a find!!! I highly recommend them. We will definitely go back to experience...
Read moreMy friend suggested we have breakfst at the Moon Rise Cafe saying: "he hadn't been there in awhile, but remembered how good it was". So off we went to the Lakewood Mall where we found the cafe tucked in next to a driving school. I remembered seeing it many times over the years, but always dismissed it thinking it probably wasn't very good. Boy was I wrong! Stepping inside we found every table occupied with customers, luckily one couple was just finishing and in 5 minutes we were seated and looking at the menue. Note: they only have a breakfast and lunch menue and are not open for dinner. That said, their menue offers ample choices of good old "home cooked" meals with options like, home fries, biscuits and gravy (SOS), waffles, egg omlets, sandwiches, salads, etc. and the portions are very generous. I chose a mushroom egg omlet with home fries and wasn't able to finish even though I was good and hungry. The omlet was fluffy (not over cooked and rubbery) and had a generous amount of mushrooms and fetta cheese. Four slices of rye toast with a delicious boysenberry preserve complemented my meal. I should have known how good this place was by observing everyone eat as we waited to be seated; the smell wafting from the kitchen was marvelous. In closing, do yourself a "solid" and visit the Moon Rise Cafe, you won't be disappointed. I know I will be coming back...
Read moreBeen here 4 times. Time 1 - arrived at 12.30 asked how long the wait owner told me 30 minutes. Waited for 10 minutes then told they close at 1pm. Next time called to ask for a reservation or to be placed on a wait list, told they don't take reservations and you have to be there in person to be on the waitlist, showed up an hour wait. Third time, added to waitlist and told table would be 30 minutes. Asked if we could run to Safeway and we'd be back at 10.55; when our table would be ready. Got back at 10.55 and were told we'd lost our table and there was an additional 30 minute wait. Final time - today arrived at 9.40, there were 2 empty tables and I was told I'd have yo wait 20 mins. I questioned why when there were 2 empty tables? They told me they were reserved for people on the waitlist who weren't in the cafe...I questioned this and the server turned and walked away!!! Don't know how the food tastes, but I had to select a star! I'm done trying. I'm cool with rules, just be consistent. However, 2 of these occasions led me to the Spring Lake cafe in Fircrest and Topside grill in Steilacom, both had great meals and...
