my wife and I decided to go someplace upscale for her birthday dinner. We've seen the commercials for bowdies and it looks great. We read the reviews before we went and thought we would have a great fine dining experience. We found this not to be true. Our server was inexperienced and unprofessional. It started out okay when she asked for drinks and handed us a menu. She said she'd come back to explain the menu because we really didn't understand it. My wife ordered the "happy wife cocktail" we noticed it wasn't made by the mixologist or bartender it was made by our server so I thought was a little weird for a $16 cocktail to be made be a server. She never came back to explain the menu to us. She did come back three times to ask us if we wanted drinks that we already had. Our servers friend came in and sat at the bar. I'm pretty sure her friend was already drunk when she got there but she ordered a drink and had a conversation with somebody across the bar Extremely Loud. She was so loud and obnoxious, my wife and I couldn't hear each other talk. I didn't feel that it was up to us to have to tell this lady in a fine dining restaurant that she needed to be quiet. We hope that our server or a manager or an owner or somebody would say something to this lady at the bar. She said multiple curse words over and over again. This is not what I expect at any fine dining restaurant. After our drinks we asked our server for the bill so we could leave. We told her that the conversations that were going on at the bar next to us made it us feel uncomfortable and we just wanted to leave. She told us that she can tell her friend to shut up. We told her that wouldn't change our minds and we just wanted to leave. This experience took far too long because our server was so distracted with her drunk friend. I'm sure the stakes are great but I'll never know because I'll never come here and never recommend it. We went to another upscale place down the street and were...

Read moreIt takes a pretty amazing experience for me to leave a review for most restaurants, and that is exactly what we got at Bowdies. My husband and I were in the area from Tennessee and decided to go to Bowdies for our 1 year wedding anniversary after seeing great reviews. The prices may seem high for a steakhouse in Lansing, but the quality of the food and drinks, as well as the professionalism of the staff make all of it well worth the money. As appetizers we had the escargot and the goat cheese, both of which surpassed our expectations. The goat cheese came out still sizzling from the hot butter and the escargot was exactly as I hoped. For our meat, we got the tomahawk steak which was perfectly cooked and our waiter sliced it in front of us at the table, taking extra time to explain the sections of the steak and the method of cooking it. Honestly, a knife was hardly needed as it seemed to cut like a hot knife through butter - It was melt in your mouth perfection. For sides, we shared the honey glazed carrots and au gratin potatoes and were just as pleased. The wine and alcohol selection were extensive and offered options for just about any palette - I got a glass of rosé and my husband got a whiskey sour (house made sour was fantastic, more of an orange base which really complemented the Jameson). The brownie dessert was the perfect way to wrap up a dinner of surpassed expectations. All wait staff was kind and knowledgeable about the food and drinks served there. We will be going back each time we come to Michigan...
