Capitol City Grille — Restaurant in Lansing

We were in town for an anime convention and working in the artist alley. We had a very short break before some people in our group needed to go staff another event so time was important to us. Our group called ahead to be sure we had time and we were told we could be seated as soon as we arrived and that there was no wait. We walked over from the convention center only to find a line and we were told there was a 20 minute wait to be seated. The man at the head of the line was incredibly rude and basically accused us of lying about the phone call and said we couldn't possibly have spoken to anyone because he hadn't answered the phone and he wanted to know the name of this person we claimed we spoke to. He refused to believe us or make any accommodations. We wouldn't have wasted our time if they hadn't told us we could be seated immediately. Then he started listing other restraunts we could go instead. I was shocked at his attitude. And the place wasn't even that busy which had us doubly confused, we could see plenty of open tables were we stode. It seems the only positive thing about this restraunt is the location. Like a previous post we were also there for this weekend for a 3 day dance event. The man that waited on us was in training and his first day so as one would imagine it was a hot mess - this OF COURSE was absolutely no fault of his own so this post is not, AT ALL, directed towards that poor man. However, his trainer, who also seemed to be the bartender was incredibly rude to him (appalling to be matter-of-fact), to us as well but insanely rude to him. The order was all kind of wrong, items were doubled ordered, items missing, extra items added to the tap that weren’t ordered and never received, cold food, took over an hour and actually get our food (it’s to note that we were the only table besides people at the bar - I think maybe 6 at most), checks were wrong when they actually did come…it was a complete mess. Giving a great review as they earned some redemption after past poor reviews. Sat at the bar, place was dead, almost left to walk down the street and try something with higher reviews but decided to stay. Bartender was friendly and attentive enough. Ordered the Steak Frites with little expectations. Food came out within 10 minutes, hot and fresh. My first thought was that the dish looked like it was outdated, fries just had flaky salt and parsley, maybe some truffle oil and Parmesan would kick them up? However, as I dug into the Steak with Chimichurri, I quickly realized that more complexity would complicate the dish. I really thought they did a nice job on both service and food quality, especially for a hotel restaurant. If you’ve been disappointed in the past, maybe try again.
