This place has good food and atmosphere, but the service leaves a lot to be desired, ESPECIALLY with takeout orders. I live right downtown, and have ordered takeout from Midtown dozens of times. It's not uncommon to find things missing from the order when I get home. "Why don't you check the order before leaving?" I hear you asking. Great question! It's because they tie their takeout bags in a knot before you even get there to pick it up. So this has caused some problems. Tonight, after finding that my takeout fish and chips was missing all the stuff (slaw, tartar, lemon), I got annoyed enough to call over there and tell them how frustrating it is to always get home missing something. The man who took my call was so incredibly rude to me! I never raised my voice, used any profanity or pejoratives, nothing like that. I was a bartender for too many years to talk to people in the industry with disrespect. But the gentleman I was speaking with on the phone clearly didn't feel that way. He acted annoyed to be bothered with such a trifle. He called me things like "aggressive," "intense," and "insulting," even though I wasn't anything but frustrated. I finally said to him, "Is there going to be a point in this conversation where you try to fix the issue?" and he said, "The way you're talking to me, I don't know if I feel like giving you a credit." Then he told me how busy he was right then. So I asked to speak to a manager. He told me that he WAS the head manager! So I asked for the owner's contact information, which he refused to give me. It was a wild conversation, y'all...to the point where I'm writing this review instead of eating delicious fish and chips. I'll never go back, regardless of how long I live in this house or how hungry I get. To get told off when I called to express frustration with a problem?!? Rude. In conclusion: Don't be like me. Check your takeout...
Read moreI typically shy away from leaving reviews, good or bad, choosing instead to vote with my feet and my wallet. But I’m done with MBC. Rather than complain or offer suggestions, I’m just going to describe my lunch experience today, and say that it’s entirely representative of the past few times I’ve been in.
A co-worker and I decided to head over to MBC for lunch and a beer. We took a seat outside and waited while the server dealt with another table. When he was done, he walked right past us without acknowledgement and headed inside. On our table there was a menu — “NEW MENU” — but no beer list. We waited. 5 minutes. 10. 15. Another server came and went without so much as eye contact. There was a woman with a small dog, smoking, at a nearby table. No one said a word. Finally I grabbed the server’s attention. “Oh, you guys haven’t been helped yet?” “Nope.” “Okay, I’ll be right with you.” 5 more minutes. When he came back, we asked about a beer list, or what they have on draft. “I don’t know. I don’t have a list on me. I can go get one.” “Okay, can we order food first?” “Sure.” I tried to order the quinoa salad. “Oh, we’re out of quinoa.” Huh. Well, the vegan soup option is always a safe bet. “What’s your vegan soup option?” “I don’t know.” Fine. My co-worker suggests he go grab a beer list while we look at other lunch options. 5 more minutes. 10. This was the point at which we got up and left, 35 minutes after sitting down. No food. No beer. No water. Not even a beer menu. We got waylaid by someone looking to have a petition signed. We both did. I kept an eye on our former table. By the time we were done, the server still hadn’t returned.
Would you go back? If this was your experience three times in a row? I...
Read moreWas disappointed going in for dinner after an evening out kayaking.
Of the open booths, both table tops were noticeably dirty. The cleaner of the two we quickly realized would leave half the table with drinks on them, but they quickly wiped down the table of the other booth after I asked and pointed out it was dirty.
Overall I would have said it was a nice evening after that. However, when we got our checks at the end of the meal, we noticed a decrepancy. My friend and my drinks were $2 more than listed. My friend pointed this out to the server only for it to be realized he had given us the alcoholic version of our drink. The brewery has a non-alcoholic Elvis Juice and an Alcoholic version. While we were pointing to the NA section when we order, I think it was an honest mistake. However, there wasn't any clarification with having two beverages with the same name as to which we wanted and I strictly can't have alcohol because of my medications. Luckily I was so focused on food I barely touched my drink, but it could have really messed me up and I could see others accidentally in a hard situation without...
