Now, this! This is barbecue done right, my friends! Cutie and I stopped in today, and my, my, my, were we satisfied. You know it's good when you literally run to the car to devour it. I got the chicken sandwich plate with two sides: mac and cheese, and potato salad. All I can say is that the tater salad is so good, I wish they sold large containers of it! Cutie tried mine and loved it as well! The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and spectacular. The sandwich itself was perfect, with the awesome smoked flavor of the meat and a bun that was soft as can be. I dunked it in their BBQ sauce, which just made it that much better. I loved every single minute of this meal.
Cutie got the chicken plate with two sides: baked beans and mac and cheese, along with cornbread. She may have scolded her mouth on the beans as they were very freshly prepared, but they're fantastic. She loved the chicken and plans to order it again next time we're back. And that cornbread—so thicc and delicious, just like Cutie herself. We each got a slice of cake and loved, loved, loved them too. I had the peanut butter sheet cake, and the flavor was top-tier. The cake was thick and soft—perfection. My Cutie girl got the carrot cake, which was phenomenal, with actual chunks of carrot in it.
The portion sizes are great for the price. I was almost shocked at how affordable all of our food was, considering the quality. As soon as you pull up, you see their large smoker, and then the aromas hit you, making you feel like you've died and gone to BBQ heaven. We love The King of the Grill and will be back many, many times. Thank you for the awesome lunch today and for doing what you do. We appreciate you—five out of...
Read moreEating at King of the Grill Express is like a visit with a Good Friend. I've known the owner Fred Mendoza when he used to do Sausage and 'Q for Goff's/L&L Food Stores way back in the day before opening his 1st King of the Grill next to the Lansing Airport. The Q and the sides were killer then. Fast forward to 2024 at their new location, with his son Freddy by his side, at the former Westside Deli/Dickey's Barbeque in Frandor Shopping Center. The smoked meats are still super moist and delicious as before, especially the chicken breast and the smoked flank steak. Their sides include Mac and cheese, green beans, cornbread, and the crowd favorite, Cheesy Potato. There is not a clunker in their offerings. You can't miss the homemade dessert, esp. the Peanut Butter sheet cake, made by Fred's wife.
So welcome back, old friend. Greater Lansing seriously missed you. We're all...
Read moreHad seen positive reviews. Stopped in for lunch. A bit hard to find. Signage is very poor. When you're trying to find by car, very easy to miss. Had to do some circling to find store front. Tried two meats, brisket and pulled pork and two sides, mac and cheese and slaw. Never a good sign when they leave the large can of cheap, food-service "cheese" sauce laying on the counter. Sides were very bland at best. Kraft mac is probably better, though I don't hate Kraft. Meat was tasty. Well-smoked. Not the best BBQ I've had, but definitely better than average. Though sauce is also important to BBQ. Wish they had more and better sauce options. Ambiance in the place is pretty terrible, but I took food to go so I...
