Kettle Pancake House — Restaurant in Laredo

It makes me sad to know that this place has really lowered their standards. I grew up coming here. Now that I am older, I notice it might need a bit of an upgrade but keep the same mom and pop restaurant vibe going. I went last weekend with my sister and daughter. They had two affordable french toast and pancake plate. We ordered one of each and had a biscuit that was shared between 3 of us. Pancakes were delicious, I asked for 1 egg white, 1 whole egg, which was warm and fresh and not overly cooked since I asked for scramble. But there was an issue with the French toast. Since arriving, I felt I was really hungry and I ordered the French toast for myself and daughter. My sister and I decided to share our pancakes and french toast. I ate what tastes like FRESH french toast and I noticed the other two, that I shared with my sister, were not really golden like the others, more of a brown golden. So, as we are talking and eating, she makes a face and politely takes the food out of her mouth and told me to taste it. It was like eating raw dough. I’ve seen this restaurant for many years as I passed by. I decided to give it a try for the pancakes since ihop appeared to be full. I went in and sat in a booth. The atmosphere was that of an old run down dinner and no one to attend to you. After about 5 minutes, a waitress came by and I ordered the eggtravaganza (4 eggs over-easy) with hash browns and bacon. I also ordered two pancakes. It took about 30 minutes for the meal to come out. The waitress attitude towards the customer was that of “don’t bother me/don’t ask me”, the atmosphere felt like they didn’t want you there. When I finally got my meal, the hash browns were toasted “brown on top”and extremely hard. I felt like I was chipping at a small rock in my teeth. The eggs were “MEH.” The bacon was under cooked, soft (not crispy) and a taste that it was EXPIRED.. Such taste ruined my meal. I tried the pancakes and they tasted “blended and grainy.” I told the waitress to advise the cook of the expired bacon, but she just went back and removed the plate from my receipt. I ended up paying almost 15 dollars for a cup of coffee and two pancakes. First and last time I visit this restaurant. No customer service whatsoever and...

I give this restaurant 2 stars for effort. My family and I went after Sunday church service looking for a hearty breakfast but instead had a mediocre experience. We sat near the booth that had the dish washer behind it which didn't matter at first until he wet us and didn't even apologize when i confronted him to take it easy in the water because we were getting wet. After that nothing but loud slamming dishes like if we had bothered the guy which seemed to be the manager or owner as well. Our order took about 20 minutes which is ok because Sunday it was busy than usual. So it is better to go during the week for a nice quite breakfast. We finished our breakfast and were ready to pay literally stood by the register which was left unattended and it right by the door mind you and no one seem to notice me. All the servers and employees just kept looking at me and passing me by until 8 to 10 minutes later someone finally acknowledged me and charged me. Hire more staff at least for the weekends and please have someone at the register at all times and the place could use and update....nit just a...
