Went in yesterday Dec16 At around 11:30 to dine in, we ordered our fresh made tamales our drinks and a bean burrito, we waited for 30 minutes just to be told they didn't have any tamales of any kind, the people ahead of us had been waiting for longer just to be told the same thing. They sold us tamales they didn't have. We did get a refund for the tamales as well as the other customers. We got told that we could order ahead of time for the next day so that the same thing wouldn't happen so that's what we did. They told us our fresh tamales should be ready for pick up from 10:30 to 11 am. I ordered one dozen red and one dozen green cheese. When we got there this morning around 10:45 they told us they only had red left that they hadn't received the green ones yet? They offered me green chicken tamales instead but that's not what we wanted so they told us we could wait for the green ones to get there or come back later but they had no idea when they would arrive. We waited for about 30 minutes then they tell us the green had just came in . They sold us frozen green tamales 😭 They warmed them up as we waited for the fresh tamales to get there.🤯 We waited a whole day just to get the same frozen tamales Walmart sales. Make sure if you're dinning in to confirm they have what you are trying to eat, or you will be waisting your time waiting just to get a refund. And if you order for another day just know they'll pull a fast one on you and sell you half warmed up frozen tamales 🤢. So make sure you check your tamales. We will not be returning here, They have no communication within they're team . The girl that took care of our order kept filling up orders as well as the drive through lady, without confirming they even had tamales. We waited 30 minutes just for a bean and cheese burrito. If your hungry at the moment I do not recommend going here as the waiting times are bad and they probably end up serving you warmed up frozen tamales. If we wanted warmed up frozen green Chile tamales we would of asked for them since the first day, or even have had gotten them from Walmart for only 97 more cents. It may not be a big deal to many others but twice our family meal got ruined by the unprofessionalism of the team at Roberto's. We miss the old times where things like these would only happen as a last resort and with the customer approval. We couldn't eat together for the second time since we had to warm up the tamales correctly, While the fresh ones...
Read moreI live up in Utah now, but I grew up going to Las Cruces and eating at Roberto's and it was always my favorite place to eat in Las Cruces. Today did not disappoint.
Today we ate a late lunch there and I got the stuffed sopapilla, which was light and crispy, filled with ground beef, lettuce and tomatoes, with yummy hot salsa on the side and it was everything I wanted it to be and more.
Then we ordered a dozen red chile pork tamales and they were just as delicious as I remembered them to be. Whenever my Mom comes down to Cruces, she asks me what I want and I always tell her, "ROBERTO'S TAMALES!" and she brings them to me.
My teenage son ate 5 tamales himself and said, "These are the best tamales I've ever had." He loves it when Grandma brings us up Roberto's tamales also!
The salsa, chips and red chile enchilada sauce are all delicious, and it just makes me sad that I can't get food this good without having to make it myself up in Utah! Such is the life of a New Mexican girl living in Utah... Sad sigh.
The other big highlight of our stop into Roberto's was getting to meet and be taken care of by Jacob Estrada, the owner's son.
Jacob was very kind, helpful and gave us BEYOND EXCELLENT service today, which made our driving all the way to Cruces from Deming to eat at Roberto's that much more awesome. It's all I wanted, the taste of authentic New Mexican cuisine bathed in childhood nostalgia.
Thank you Jacob for being an awesome representative of the Roberto's legacy. I'm grateful you were there today to give us such excellent service. 🙏🏼
I hope you get to take over the restaurant someday soon so I can come back down and see you again and get more amazing service from you. It's well worth the 800+ mile drive for food that damn delicious, and to be greeted by someone as awesome as you, well I've got zero doubts that if you were to run the restaurant, you would make it even better than it already is! See you next time homie! Thank you a billion, you know why! ❤️🙏🏼🤤🫔
(PS. There are no photos of the food because I had zero ability to wait even a second to snap a photo before digging into my food. It was that damn good you guys, go get some...
Read moreRoberto's is by far my most favorite Mexican food restaurant in Las Cruces, NM. But I must be honest and admit a bias, one of my relatives is married to a member of the owners family but that has nothing to do with the taste of the food. This is my favorite dish, red enchiladas topped with 2 perfectly prepared fried eggs, beans (frijoles lol), spanish rice, with a garnish of shredded lettuce and tomato. Don't turn your nose up at eating the garnish because the red chile sauce mixed with the lettuce and tomato makes for a heavenly delight. There is much more to the story of this landmark eating establishment and I will post several photos of the legendary and world renowned owner (now deceased, sadly) and founding proprietor. Mr. Robert Estrada founded the restaurant in 1980 although he had a thriving tortilla manufacturing company. One day he had an epiphany and decided to go for a world record by making the world's largest three layer red enchilada. Not only did he accomplish this feat, garner a world record, but the Whole Enchilada Fiesta sprung up around it, which was sadly cancelled as he became too I'll to continue. I would also like to add he was a Vietnam war veteran. I've seen many negative reviews of this restaurant but, fantastical as it may sound, there is an outside element that is constructively closing down all the local establishments to favor their "alien" invasion. If one will do some research, one will find the most popular eating establishments in our fair city of the same persuasion are not local and arise from further south. What better way to conquer than from within. This area of the southwest is known as the chile capital of the world and well deserved. The local controversy around here is - "what is your favorite chile sauce,...
