VALLARTA MEXICAN FOOD — Restaurant in Lathrop

I give two stars instead of one because I've had decent food here before. However, this time was... different. I was picking up food for some friends who were helping with a construction project. Everything went fine, but I had a massive craving for a large pineapple "agua fresca" drink. For some reason or another, it took them about 15 minutes to make the drink and I was there waiting with a friend with the rest of the order ready to go. Finally they finish the drink, but they got the size wrong. At this point, I'm not at all upset. I'm just worried about my friends. I'm a pretty patient guy, so this is nothing for me. Well, after seeing that the drink was the wrong size, the lady told me to hold on so that they could make another one with the size I ordered - on the house. "Great!" I thought. "How nice of them." Another 5 minutes pass and I'm out the door.

The fun begins when I arrive back.

I step off the car, food in hand and all of a sudden I'm the messiah come to feed his people. As everyone is getting settled in, I look at my large pineapple drink with a lustful thirst. Finally I was going to enjoy it! I put in the straw and my mouth fills with... something else. My brain immediately picked up on the taste and realized something was very wrong. The taste was as if they had ventured to the dead sea, brought back the water, and concentrated it to the saltiest drink you can imagine (after throwing in some pineapple, of course.) My friends didn't believe me when I told them what was going on, so I had them taste it. I don't think any of them will look at a pineapple drink the same way ever again.

Of course, this was not the situation I wanted to be in, and I'm sure the people of Taqueria Vallarta were definitely not trying to mess with me. But I made the most of it. My brother wasn't around, so I told him how great this pineapple drink was. Hilarity ensued. I may not have gotten my pineapple-laden satisfaction, but at least it was on the house. Needless to say, I'm not coming back.

Guys, next time you make a drink, please read the label. All it takes to break someone's day is to pour some salt...

One of my favorites now is their chicken enchilada combo plates. The rice and beans are average, I could eat the enchiladas without it. I like the verde sauce with my enchiladas and they come out very filling with it being stuffed full of meat. That is a proper enchilada to me. Their mini salsa bar is on point. I orded tacos one time and they are pretty big, it's like eating 3-4 street mini tacos in one. Beef portion ratio to the tortilla and sauce was not a win-win for me. If you like beer with your food, they have it bottled. They also have a lot of dishes specializing in seafood, although I haven't tried them yet. There's a whole wall of mini led tvs they bought to take mini video clips of their seafood specials to promote them, its pretty eye dazzling. They also have some selections of fresh made juices I've yet to try but sound delicious from their menu. The drinks I've ever had there was their hibiscus drink, it's refreshing and not overly sweet and their horchata which is always a go to if you like milk and cinnamon flavored drinks, also light and not overly sweet, always the best when it's ice cold. My family and I just went here today to order to go. It was such an unwelcoming experience. I don’t usually leave negative reviews unless they are well deserved only because I know businesses can’t please everyone. However this visit to this restaurant bothered me. The lady that took my order was a Mexican lady as I am difference is she is fluent in Spanish and I am not - I think this bothered her? I didn’t get a smile, a thank you or a goodbye which was very disappointing and quite frankly unprofessional and rude . The part that got me was after I was done placing my order 2 white men walked up and the same lady that just took my order was so welcoming she said hello, she gave them a smile and then even began to flirt a little bit with one of the guys.
