After reading a lot of the negative reviews of this place, I’ve been avoiding it like the plague. So when the time came that I actually found myself at the Double T diner for breakfast, I have to admit I was downright scared. But I was also very hungry. I was skipping my go-to choice, First Watch, because there was a crowd waiting there, and I hate waiting in line, especially for breakfast. First Watch Laurel has become, in my opinion, a victim of its own success. In the words of the late Yogi Berra, nobody goes there anymore — It’s too crowded. So that’s how I found myself at a table at the double T diner: hungry, and nervous.
Have you ever walked into a place where you can sense that the staff has read all the negative reviews they get? There’s a downtrodden, sort of “I’m sorry for serving you this crap” aura that is absolutely palpable, permeating the atmosphere in the Double T. On a warm summer morning when people were out and Laurel traffic was thick, half of the dining area was completely closed off, and there was an uncomfortable silence hanging in the air. The food was edible, but that’s about it. The avocado slices on my southwest scramble were fresh and green, and I appreciated that nice touch — they weren’t brown and nasty. But everything was bland, barely lukewarm and the potatoes were dry. It’s a diner for chrissake —serve me my potatoes piping hot with some butter or grease or something, anything on them. The salsa had that straight-out-of-the-can look and taste to it. Double T diner pretty much lived down to its reputation. I simply can’t believe the producers of Gordon Ramsay‘s kitchen nightmares or one of those other reality shows hasn’t found this place yet, so their star chef can start throwing pots and pans and cursing out the pathetic, lackluster staff, while he turns it into a cash register. The place just seems so perfect for that.
I won’t be going back to Double T, no matter how hungry I am. I guess I’ll just have to go to First Watch and stand in line with a crowd, waiting for...
Read moreI came in last night for my second visit, I was returning because I'd eaten there once before and really liked the food. I entered the front door and waited to be seated, right by the sign asking you to do so. I proceeded to be ignored for a bit over 10 min, at which point one of the guests who had finished paying her bill actually patted my shoulder, and called out 'Hey, this guy here needs a seat!'. An employee looking at the two of us then dismissed her saying 'Alright, thank you, goodnight!'. Even then, no one came over to seat me. A few seconds later, a woman who had seen me standing there while multiple guests paid there bill walked by me, who I literally had to stare down to get her to say anything to me. Looking at me with an expression like 'why are looking at me?', she said 'Can I help you?'. Feeling incredulous that question needed to be asked, I said that I had been waiting there to be seating. The woman gave a blank expression, said nothing as she grabbed a menu and turned around to take me to a table. I was in disbelief as I stood this for a moment, then turned and left. What a most unfortunate experience because as I mentioned I really liked the food. I have no idea what led to that, but no food is good enough to receive that type of treatment. It is not a place I...
Read morePlease Read: I have been frequenting this DD T Diner in Laurel Md for more than 10 years. Mr. Victor, who is part owner, normally prepares my meals there. However, his BROTHER-IN-LAW, the tall Hispanic man was in charge when Mr. Victor was on vacation two weeks ago. I normally bring ONE UNOPENED bottle of spring water in with me because they DON’T sell spring water.
Victor’s brother-in-law approached me while seated and I politely asked was Victor on the prepare my meal, he abruptly stated No!” “Anybody can help you!” He then became very loud stating, “YOU cannot bring that in here!!!!” I said no problem, and I began to get up proceeding to the door to take the water out.
Victor’s brother-in-law started yelling, “It’s a sign on the door, you can’t bring that water in here.!!!!! It was at this time other customers came over to me as I was leaving and told him his approach to me was very aggressive and unprofessional. He appeared to be very biased and prejudice.
I have been bringing ONE 12 oz bottle of water in that diner for 10 years on MO ONE SAID A WORD ABOUT.
I am 65 + years of age and if he yelled at me and disrespected me as such, how does he treat other patrons. I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THE DOUBLE T DINER IN LAUREL MD AGAIN. Not to mention the food...
