I went to Red Crab House in Laurel, MD for the first time with 7 other people and was met with awful service. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were sat immediately at 7:20. Once being sat down no one came to our table to greet us or offer water for the table. After ample time of waiting, our first waiter came to take our orders. We thought after taking our order it would have been placed. Unfortunately, it was not. Our first waiter came back with a new waiter stating that they were going to take care of us for the rest of the night. From there they retook our orders. Although we sat down at 7:20, we were not given water until about 8:30. We did not receive our food until around 9:00 and some of the food was missing or wrong. A person in our party did not receive the correct order until 9:30 and the restaurant closes at 10 pm
During our whole dining experience, they had a DJ blasting music. We had asked if the music could be brought down on numerous occasions because we were barely able to hear other people at our table or the waitstaff. Due to the music, it caused poor communication between us and our waiter and four people including myself in our party orders were messed up in some capacity.
In addition to the music being too loud. They had a poor management team. During our visit, the management team consisted of a kitchen manager and the front-of-the-house manager. Unbeknownst to me and the rest of my party, the front-of-the-house manager was a manager in training with no real authority. When we tried to express our concerns to the front-of-the-house manager we were not met with much support. I had spoken to him, and he had stated that he was going to come back to our table, and he never came back until we repeatedly ask different waitstaff to get the manager. We did not find out the manager took 10% off our bill which is about only tax until our waiter told us in which I asked them to get the manager. After numerous attempts of trying to speak to the manager, he finally came back to our table. During this time, the manager also made a sly remark referring to us not being able to afford our food. At this moment I had asked him if there was anyone else, I could speak to in the building. He informed me that he was the only person that I could speak to. We later found out that there was another manager in the building. Another person in my party went up to speak to the manager after he had left. He said that he was going to come back with the check and speak with us to come to an agreement. During this whole ordeal, we were still waiting for missing pieces of our meals. He later comes back stating that he took an additional 18% off our bill. However, this 18% was the gratuity that they added to our bill. After speaking to us briefly he left leaving the waiter. From here we realized that the 18% off was the gratuity. Another person in our party went up to speak to the manager. However, the manager decided to stay in the kitchen refused to come out and speak to her. He only spoke to her through the waiter going back forth between the kitchen and the front of the house. The manager did not give my party member the respect she deserved. Their website states that they are about giving “a little extra” and this is the foundation of the service they offer. However, based on the management staff that they have hired they did not live up to the core value that they advertise on...
Read moreThis was the worst customer service experience I ever encountered!! I do not recommend this place to anyone the manager tolerate their employees disrespecting customers. And as a patron, this will be me 1st and last time ever supporting this business.
It started with me putting a verbal phone order and the to-go girl, “Monet” rudely and continuously cuts me off as I tried to ask her to describe the mild/med spice levels. During our phone conversation she also denied me my right to speak with a manager when I explained I no longer wanted to order with her because of her rude tone. After numerous times of me asking for a manager, eventually Amy, -the manager got on the phone to take my order and she was able to better assist me.
Once I came in person and after paying for my order, I asked Amy if I could further explain what took place- in which Amy agrees to listen because she did not witness the entire phone conversation with Monet and I.
Amy attempts to rectify the situation by having Monet come out to apologize in which she states, “ Monet actually want to come out to apologize on her own because she’s a really sweet girl and it was all a miscommunication” I originally denied the idea out of fear of confrontation ( because I did not pick up a sweet demeanor from Monet during our phone convo) However the manager insisted and so I agreed. When Monet came out she offer a very sarcastic apology- in my opinion it wasn’t an apology but more of a verbal slap in the face. In quote she says “she apologizes for my lack of understanding”- how rude!! “that we are all adults , that it was simple, all I had to do was choose a spice level”, “she feel like she didn’t disrespect me” “that she denied me my right to a manager because the manager has several other issues to address besides dealing with mine”- even if this was true in some fairytale world; before I asked for a manager, I first asked to speak with anyone else to take my order besides her and she denied me of that too!! WORST OF ALL..... she removed her mask several times during the conversation while yelling across the room and threatened to fight me when shes off work between “10 or 11”. Wowwwww!! just wow. Is this what we call customer service in 2021??
In the middle of a pandemic I carry American on my back as a frontliner- registered nurse along with many other front-liners and this is the thanks Im paid in return. And at minimum, I ask for respect as one of my basic human right, especially when Im giving respect. But not even 2min into a verbal phone order and me just trying to ask a question about a spice level for clarity shes being really rude to me. Horrible horrible customer service!!!!. And kudos to the manager, Amy who sat there and tolerated her employee disrespecting a PAYING CUSTOMER and lied about her being a...
