Ate here yesterday it was the first and last time!! A couple of things made us regret coming into Runza. Reason number one Like I said this was the first time ever eating at Runza we were unaware of how the kids meals worked but also let the woman know this was our first time being there.. we ordered kids meals after eating them we ordered dessert.. while eating dessert we asked the kids what toys they got and that's when the kids told us there was no toy. Asking the front counter about the toy they informed us after purchasing the meals and dessert that the kids meals come with a free treat coupon on the side of the bag.. I was a little annoyed that they didn't say anything before hand but explained we do not live in Lawrence so asked if we could use the free treat coupon for a cookie to take with us. I was told no that it's ice cream cone only which the coupon does not state.. I asked for a manager and even though he seemed frustrated he ended up letting us have a cookie as they were only a dollar and they didn't inform us of the coupon. Reason number two after speaking to the manager he went back into the kitchen and as we were leaving the two employees up front were making fun of us in front of other customers. Reason number three I believe I got food poison from old mushrooms on the mushroom Swiss Runza. Overall yes the place seems clean but the service and the possible poisoning is not worth...
Read moreI have been to Runza's several times since I first visited my sister in April 2015 and now that I have moved here it was a frequent place to go for me. The food is decently priced and although it is one of those local places that are only found in a handful of places it does add a bit of its own local taste although I still have no idea what a runza is.
There is a nice large dining area if one is inclined to sit down and eat instead of going through the drive-through. Although they don't have a lot of booth sitting, there are plenty of chairs while most of them have access to the multiple windows so you can study your surroundings.
One of our favorite places in this place is actually their historical wall. Runza's has a wonderful collections of black-and-white pictures showing the first building and developing history from there. While we were studying this we noticed that the spelling of the restaurant had been different over times while it fascinated us.
The food is delicious although like I said I haven't had their famous runza yet. What had my attention is the chili and the yummy cinnamon roll that is accompanied although the chicken strips are nice and meaty instead of scrawny, the fries always warm and the soft serve ice cream is truly a treat for hot days.
Definitely a nice place to get out to enjoy a quick meal with the family if you don't...
Read moreMy partner and I were driving from Denver to Illinois, through Kansas. On our way out west, we'd encountered Runza in Nebraska. Upon finding out there was one in Lawrence, we decided to book it to make it there before closing. It was eight hours of driving (with more to follow!) to try to get there before closing; we pushed it through with only necessary gas stops conducted with the efficiency of a pit crew. On the last bit of the drive, we got stuck behind The World's Slowest Truck Caravan (TM), which was going 30 in a 55, and my partner called to make sure of their closing time, as it looked like we'd be cutting it down to the bare wire getting there. They assured us they would not be closing before 10, and asked us what we planned to order.
We made it there at 9:51. They had our cheese Runzas and Frings hot and ready for us. As we were paying, my partner mentioned we were the people who called. They said, "I know." Then the cashier, after giving us our food, gave us two cookies on the house, saying that the manager had said to give them to us for the road.
Everything was amazingly delicious, and the service/kindness/understanding was easily the best we'd had on our entire vacation. I don't know when we'll make it back to Lawrence, but if you're there, definitely...
