I am so sad to have to leave this review. I have shopped at this Aldi since we moved to Tonganoxie (about 2 years). Today something unprecedented happened that left me crying in the middle of store and crying the entire 30 minutes back home because of how poorly I was treated for no reason from a cashier. I went to check out with my 10 month old son in tote, and there was an elderly lady in front of me checking out and unloading her groceries onto the belt. Naturally I picked up the divider and began to put my groceries toward the back of the belt behind my divider. About 20 seconds into unloading my cart, the cashier says "Mam please stop unloading your groceries so this lady can get her groceries onto the belt". Distracted with my infant, I look at the lady's cart in front of me very confused as she has all but 2 items left in her cart. So the cashier begins to move the belt forward and approaches my items and takes her arm and smacks everything down the belt as hard as she can (I wish I were exaggerating). At this point, I am thinking "wow, that was really bad behavior, but maybe I missed something?". At this point the lady in front of me has unloaded her cart and now the cashier needs to bring the belt forward to re-approach my items and she then takes her arm again and smacks my groceries (which I hadn't even unloaded all the way) down the belt again with a psychotic look on her face. Throwing my groceries all over the place. At this point, I looked at her and said "Really"? I was being very polite and gave the lady in front of me adequate time to unload her groceries which didn't affect me putting things on the belt, mind you. That is what those little dividers are for! I quickly asked to speak with the manager, shocked by her behavior. The cashier then quickly apologizes and then justifies her actions by saying that I was not allowing enough time for the lady in front to check out. I was in utter shock. Justin, the manager then steps out and I am crying at this point, so stunned that a trip to the grocery store would leave me feeling so broken (and not because I took my infant son w/me, but because a 40+ yr old cashier living a very clearly miserable life wanted to take her misery out on a stranger). Justin, the store manager, was very calm and apologetic, clearly a person who should be working in the area of customer service. He offered to help me check out and shut down the cashier's lane while she she ran to the back, hopefully ashamed of her behavior. Justin handled the situation very well, while I did my best to hold back tears. It was a bizarre situation I am sure he hadn't faced before, or maybe he had dealt with similar instances by this cashier? He apologized and told me the cashier had to recently put down her dog. While I understand the pain of losing a loved one, I will never understand how putting so much effort into treating someone so poorly would make you feel any better. While I don't blame the manager, the actions of your employees have a major impact on your store's success. I won't be returning to this store.
Reading other's reviews, it sounds as though someone else has possibly had another experience with this cashier, per Pamela...
Read moreI'm in Aldi's loyalist. The store has a very simple setup and layout, even on your first time in here it won't take long for you to figure out where things are and Aldi's is always cheap.
Located on Iowa Street practically in the entrance of Lawrence almost just a few blocks up, location is convenient however the parking lot can be a mess especially if it's busy and people are coming in and out, I've seen multiple collisions right in that parking lot, a little bit of a tight squeeze. A small thing I criticize Aldi for is the need of a quarter to get a cart because I always forget to have a quarter on when I go there.
And I honestly would prefer self-checkouts, because every time I go there, whether it's for shopping for myself or doing an instacart order.. the lines are generally long and my lines I mean usually only one line is open and it's super long sometimes they have to if it's packed packed but usually just one. And it's always a rush going through it, the cashier rapidly scans your items and tosses them into the cart and it's your job to either bring your own bag or buy bags from the store which don't cost a whole lot of money thankfully, but essentially they rapidly scan it all, throw it in your cart, you pay for it and then you go to the bench across from the cash registers to sack it yourself. Or you can just take your car full of goods outside to your car unload it and rental car back in.
Aldi definitely has a very interesting system when it comes to checking people out but I wish they would just get rid of half of their checkout lines because they don't use them all and replace them with self checkouts because if they did that, more people could get in and out of there quicker and there wouldn't be such a holdup at the cash register blocking a lot of people from navigating the front end of the store because of the long lines.
Other than that, the quarters and the tight parking lot. Aldi is where I go to buy my groceries, which is why I'm making...
