First Watch — Restaurant in Layton

This was my first and definitely last time visiting the First Watch in Layton. I’ve been to several locations out of state and the difference is noticeable. The vibe was off, they don’t serve mimosas, and overall it just didn’t feel like the First Watch experience I’m used to.

Our waitress started off friendly and attentive, but after her first check-in, we didn’t see her again. My coffee also tasted surprisingly and I’m usually really forgiving with coffee, so that says a lot.

What really made the visit uncomfortable, though, was the atmosphere. It felt like the managers were hovering. One was standing between tables just watching, and another was intensely overseeing every server and pointing at tables. Instead of feeling taken care of, it felt like we were being watched. Every other table had two servers while ours barely had one checking in, and the whole situation just felt strange and tense.

I was lucky to be able to attend the friends and family event at First Watch this past weekend. I had a good experience! The food was flavorful and it left me satisfied. I tried the Pesto chicken quinoa dish, eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, biscuits and gravy side, and the million dollar bacon. I also tried all of the juices. Service was awesome, everyone looked happy to serve you. The interior has a modern farmhouse style, not too cold feeling, but homey. My kids enjoyed their pancakes and waffles very much. She was extremely personable, attentive, and made us feel completely comfortable—no question felt too silly, and she truly went above and beyond. The food here is incredible and totally Instagram-worthy. Portions are generous, and for smaller eaters, the leftovers are fabulous the next day. You definitely get your money’s worth!
