This is sort of a stir fry hibachi buffet. You choose cold noodles, rice, meats, veggies, sauces, in any amount and combo you like, then the cooks fry it up on a big round flat grill. You can always come back for another round to try different combos, but here are some tips I wish I had known before diving in:
Tip #1: Start with a small portion or you'll eat too much on the first go and won't have room to mix together another concoction. (If you know what you're doing and like large portions, then go to town and get 2 bowls worth of food to be mixed together!)
Tip #2: Pay attention to the sauce board above the sauces to guide quantity and what goes well together. 2 spoonfuls isn't gonna cut it. (I recommend at least 4, most of their mixes have 6.)
Tip #3: If you have allergies, be careful. The cold food choices can sometimes get mixed together when selecting items, and the grillers walk in a circle mixing multiple meals with the same spatulas. I got a couple pieces of veggies in my bowl that I did not choose myself. It didn't bother me, I just pushed it aside and kept eating. But if it bothers or endangers you, speak up and get them to put a little more care and space around your food.
Tip #4: The atmosphere is lively and loud, with lines of people filling bowls, a sizzling grill, and metal spatulas stirring food. The AC was blowing quite hard near the grill to keep that area cool. If all that doesn't sound good to you, ask if you can be seated on the other side of the restaurant and you might get a more peaceful experience.
Really fun place to try. I only took a star off because it was loud sitting next to the grill (like the group was yelling to be heard across the table) and the air was blowing hard right...
Read moreThis place was disgusting. Everything was sticky (the table, the menu, the chairs, the soy sauce on the table), and the food was terrible. I barely ate anything because I thought it tasted like I was going to get food poisoning, my girlfriend was starving so she ate about half of her plate and she DID get food poisoning. We stayed because I had a good memory of going to HuHot in Colorado when I lived there about 7 years ago and I was able to make excuses for the red flags. Maybe it was just because it was the end of the night, maybe they were just rushing, maybe stuff was sticky just because there’s a lot of kids there, we made plenty of excuses to just try it. Our meal was about 47 bucks (for just the two of us…), I mentioned the food tasting really off to our waitress, and she just shrugged and smiled and said “okay, here’s your check”. I don’t expect to get comped for making a poor decision to stay in a restaurant that I already thought was kinda gross, but I do expect someone to respond better than that. I was trying to give her a heads up that something wasn’t right, maybe the grill wasn’t hot enough and wasn’t cooking the meat well enough? I didn’t have an issue with paying and never coming back, but the fact she brushed off what I said, then subsequently my girlfriend got violently ill when we got home is just not okay. I’m so disappointed.
To the manager- please, tell your staff that if someone says something about the food tasting off, please check the temperature on the grill, make sure people are cooking the shrimp/other meats long enough to kill the bacteria. This was so nasty and I will probably never go to another...
Read moreI love the HuHot in Logan and have been there many times (45 minute drive). The Layton location leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe due to opening a week ago? Idk. I went with a party of 10. Most of the staff was friendly and they offer a military discount if you ask. Now the not so good part...... the cooks were nice but the food was either burnt or the meat frozen in the middle. Part of this might have been that they scraped the grill without putting water down first so there were still remnants on the grill when starting to cook again. The establishments signature move is when customers ask the cooks "How hot?" They fire up the grill and yell back "HuHot!" Only one of the cooks even looked our direction and responded. The waitress was nice but got the checks all messed up. She gave us the checks then we sat for 30 minutes waiting for her to return. Finally we grabbed a manager who was walking around. We explained the problem. All he said was "tell me what needs to be fixed." After straightening out the checks they ran the wrong check on one of the credit cards. After explaining this issue to the manager he corrected it without saying anything. Our waitress finally came back and discovered all that had happened in her absence. She apologized profusely. By this time we just wanted to leave. I still have hope for this location! I think the staff needs training! Also to the manager: smile once in a while and when there are problems don't just make it right on paper but apologize and make it better than right, maybe a discount? Just let us know you care that our dining experience was...
