12/28/21was our first visit here. We were seated quickly and the waiter, Kevin, was very friendly. We told him it was our first visit. The chips & salsa were okay...nothing special. We asked for a spicier salsa or verde salsa & received both. They were better, not great, but better than the house salsa. We ordered 6 tacos. They came out very quickly. They were skimpy on meat and they only had meat & cheese. What the heck? They were tasteless. We tried every regular taco they have and none of them were flavorful. I asked waiter if they come with tomato normally? He said oh, do you wants some Pico de Gallo? I said sure. I had no idea that tomatoes and pico were brought as they were on one small platter. It didn't really help the tacos, as they were tasteless as well. Our chips were in very small pieces one inch and smaller. I asked waiter if this is a normal basket of chips. He said no that another waiter keeps breaking them with a scoop. This is 40 minutes into the meal that he offers to bring no chips. Nope, too late at this point. I am not sure why they were delivered to our table like that. Then, we receive the bill. We were charged for 2 extra sauces and charged for tomatoes and charged for pico. We are big foodies and 90% of Mexican places do not charge for extra salsa. I had no idea that we were gonna be charged for 4 extra sides. I explained to Kevin that if there are extra charges for any request, we would have liked to have been informed of it. He graciously removed 2 of the charged, but left the other two. I absolutely do not like Taco Bell, but there tacos are more flavorful than these were. We may try it one more time, but I am not hopeful that it will be any better if they do not even make a good taco. Disappointing .......Oh, and the electric outlet at our booth had exposed wires with no cover on it. My husband told the host on our way out. He did not seem concerned nor was he grateful. He was defensive by saying they had just had some work done recently. Really? A kid could get electrocuted!! And, he did not immediately go to remedy the...
Read moreBeautiful presentation and a comfortable environment. Chips and salsa were great so was my tea. Ordered lunch fajitas at 11:39. At 1209 I asked for a to go box without having received my food. I received my food at 1211 and got my box at 1213 along with my check. I tasted each item. Rice good taste but cold. Beans good taste but cold. Fajitas good taste but cold. Even the hotplate was barely warm. I was told a party delayed my food. If so why was it all cold. 3 other patrons sat down after me and all 3 received food before me. The hostess was polite and apologized. Have to say I loved the look of this place but the service was horrible today. Finally found a place with food that looked and tasted right but due to my service and extreme level of irritation I felt afterwards I will not return. Only here for 3 more weeks but when you only have 60 minutes for lunch and it is a 10 minute drive to your location I can't risk being late back to class. Lastly I told the hostess of my rush when I arrived and my waiter was a polite guy but he forgot about me.
Update: Came in for round two after the curt reply from the owners son. Today I had the Chicken Soft Tacos and a Chalupa. The chicken tacos tasted the same as if my mother in-law made them(which is good). The chalupa had the right taste but the shell itself was off. After the initial crunch the shell was a bit chewy and it threw me off because the rest was in point. Chips and Salsa were the best and the tea was perfect. Beans tasted great. Rice had good flavor and looked like what I ate as a kid but today it was off maybe a little under cooked. All in all the service was great my server was Mary. Lunch hour got busy again but that did not delay my food today. If I have the time again I will come back for more. There is a lot on this menu that still needs...
Read moreMy wife and I have been guests in Leavenworth, KS, for several nights, and we opted for Mexican fare for our final dinner..
We opted for Tampico based on others' reviews, and we were certainly pleased with our choice..
Nestled into historic, downtown Leavenworth, and within walking distance of at least two hotels, Tampico lives up to their mission and vision statements that are included inside their menu..
We were seated and greeted reasonably quickly, and we decided to sample their two for one house margaritas.. The drinks were wonderfully refreshing and had a great balance between whatever tequila and other ingredients were used to assemble them.. We were off to a great start..
The thin and crispy chips were accompanied by a slightly spicy but smooth salsa, and we selected the small queso, too.. The starters were fantastic!!
My wife selected the chicken fajitas and was abundantly pleased.. I was drawn to the spicy chicken chimichanga and didn't regret my choice at all..
I will just say that Mexican fare is something we try nearly everywhere we go.. We found Tampico to be very good, high quality, and the service was spot on.. Aurora was very attentive over the course of our visit, and we never wanted (or waited) for anything..
10 out of 10 recommend for a solid Mexican-fare experience in historic downtown...
