well to start out i will say that i've gone here two times. the first time - my family ended up not eating because they had about 4 things on their menu because they JUST opened up and their head chef was on a 2 week vacation so they didn't add anything. the second time i went was awful. the only good thing was the online reservation -- which was fast and convenient. from the time we got into the restaurant to the time we left it was a bad experience. we got there and we were seated with our server named mamta. she had that voice tone that was like "i'm above you - ill talk to you like your stupid" which was annoying right off the bat. she then took our appetizer order and couldn't explain what their wings were like or anything so we really didn't know what we were expecting. an alcoholic beverage was ordered which came to the table and tasted like it had NO liqour in it at all, so we told mamta about it and her response was "there is alcohol in it, i watched her pour it." sent the drink back and did not ask for another one and she rolled her eyes. after we placed our orders for our entree she brought out salads that were ordered - which had a fishy taste and no dressing could have covered up how old tasting their lettuce was. that was the first food sent back to the kitchen. then we got our food. one steak tasted like straight blood and like it's been sitting in a fridge for a week. then another person had ordered tacos- which had a hair in it. no one else had too big of problems minus the fact their food just didn't taste good at all -it was very bad food for the price you were paying. so we sent back the two meals - mamta rolled her eyes, we asked to talk to the manager who had NO clue what was going on- joe was his name. He offered two desserts on him and we took him up on the offer - which turned out to be the only good tasting thing on the menu. one of us ended up wanting our own dessert so we went ahead and ordered a third and joe then says "just so we're clear the third one is on you guys?" he then brought us the bill which was not accurate so we called him back and he asked "once we get this taken care of are we good?" while the OWNER is getting told all of this - they do not come over ONCE to talk to us and i think the whole staff was just staring our table down waiting for us to leave. it was awful and i will NOT recommend this place to anyone, unless you want 3 meals for $80.00 that are worse then just going to mcdonalds or taco bell. food= awful. staff= worse! was very excited to try this place but ended up going to johnnys tavern after for a...
Read moreIt's unfortunate that I can only give this particular Red Door a 1 star review. Three of my girlfriends met here for drinks/dinner and experienced the most disorganized service the entire evening. While the staff were quite friendly, they were clueless. It was evening on a Saturday with a steady, manageable flow of people, but most of the tables were empty. At first, we were seated at a booth indoors, but the lighting was so dim & the weather so nice, we requested to sit on the patio. We were told it might be around a 20 minute wait. We were fine with that and just ordered drinks to wait it out. Our server eventually gave us a 5 minute notice, around 15 minutes later, he ushered us, with our drinks, toward the patio, but then stood us in a high traffic area for another 10 minutes to wait until the table was ready (no one cleaned or occupied our booth or I might have reasoned that it was to seat more guests. It wasn't). When we were eventually seated, it was an outdoor area that had been closed off from the outdoors because of the rain hours earlier which created a stuffy unpleasant environment. It took several attempts to flag our new waitress down to order. She almost walked away saying she'd bring us more drinks, but we stopped her to make sure we ordered food. Three of us ordered burgers, 1 ordered a medium rare prime rib special. When the food eventually came, the burgers were lukewarm, the fries cold, the prime rib was barely pink (even in the middle). We urged our friend to request a new steak. $30 of overcooked steak was not what she ordered. The evening manager came to our table and told us it wasn't possible, because of the process of how they cooked this kind of steak, for it to come medium rare (hahahaha WHAT?!) but would she be ok with a medium rare NY Strip to go? He comped her both meals (I never asked if the strip was to order). We again had to flag down a waitress to get our checks (3 hours since we arrived) and leave which was when she came and opened up the room to the outdoors and released some of the stuffiness. It was an unfortunate experience and one that I would not risk repeating by returning. The Red Door Grill at 159th in OP is still new enough that they are performing at a much higher level of excellence and...
Read moreSo impressed with our server John S today!! We had a group of 8 for brunch. We've had issues with coffee being hot here before, but all our coffee was literally steaming hot today! ☕ And it stayed hot and full through my visit 😊
When taking our order, I noticed the server asked my friend the following question: "The egg comes over easy; does that sound good to you?" That phrasing is perfect. It implies there's a standard--a suggestion, but an an opportunity to tailor the meal, which my friend did do. Very smooth and dignified. When it came to me, our server recommended an option I hadn't considered that gave me all I wanted for less money (I don't eat meat, so the chicken and waffles only half appealed to me), so I added dessert to my order. 😋
Our server took the order in one big circle, so let's see if his team delivers it accordingly, without "auctioning it off". (Servers asking who ordered what is so distracting.) ... Bad news. Every one of his teammates asked the entire table who had what they were holding. But I know he ordered them up correctly, because the 3 items he brought, he set down, in order, quickly announcing what it was (not asking everyone who had it). I shouldn't have to remember what I ordered after I order it. It should be placed in front of me and announced.
The food was really good! Pecan pie and Belgian waffle. I know, I know, carbs are bad. But my group just finished running several miles 😅
Overall, I'm happy with the food and atmosphere. Not too happy with the staff members that brought out our food. But I'm REALLY impressed with our server John! He should train others in the finesse that is hospitality; I don't care how young he is.
