Went to Cousin Vinnie's for a nice lunch with the family. They were busy but we were able to get a table right away. Atmosphere was a great dive bar. Lots of vintage memorabilia on the wall. Inside is much cooler vibe than the outside strip mall look. They did a great job with inside decor. Service was ok. They were busy and light staffed, like everyone these days. Server was very nice. Food took a little while to come out. We didn't see the server too many times but enough. Food was pretty darn good. One kiddo got the kids corn dog and mac-n-cheese. They ran out of mac-n-cheese, so it changed to fries. Typical corn door -good option for kids. Another kiddo got the kids hot dog and fries. The hot dog was deep fried and would have been good but it was fried for too long. It was almost to the point for shared. The skin was too thick and crunchy from the deep fried. Kiddo didn't want to send it back though. Another meal was garlic parm wings and a salad. Garlic parm wings were delicious. Good flavor, solid size wings. The salad was a salad, big for being a side dish. Last meal was the Wing Ding Meal and Fries. Teriyaki sauce with the boneless wings was ok. They were fried boneless chicken wings with a crunchy batter, roller in the Teriyaki sauce. They were decent, but we will be back to try a different sauce with some more wings. They have 31 flavors for wings, yes, 31. And you MUST get the fries. They are sweet fries. One of their signature seasonings on the fries gives them a crack-like sweetness that you just can't stop eating. Fries are so good. All in all, we will be back for wings and a beer. They have a full bar that we did not take advantage...
Read moreWent to have dinner there last evening to see what all of the hype was about. The hype was completely overrated.
Positives: My beer was ice cold. My fiancé's soda was gigantic. The train wreck sauce was pretty darn good. The blue cheese dressing was good.
Negatives: Place was terribly understaffed. Had 3 waitresses for a full restaurant and several large parties. One of the back of the house cooks was also serving food to the tables. 'Vegetable' platter had rotten carrots and celery on it. Wings were average at best. I have had way better elsewhere. I ordered the Southern Chicken spud. Menu said it takes 12-14 minutes to make. Over 30 minutes later as my fiancé' was eating his wings, waitress asked how everything was. I told her "I don't know, I haven't gotten mine". She was going to check on it but got distracted for another 20+ minutes until I went up to her and told her to cancel the order to which she replied "the guy making it just finished it, but he is serving the front of the house and cooking in the back of the house, that is why it took so long". She then proceeded to tell us how the 3 waitresses had only just started working there a week or 2 ago and were still learning. I told her forget it, I didn't want the potato anymore, just the check.
Needless to say, I left starving, as I did when I arrived. Needless to say, we will get our wings from Hurricane's or Momma Mia's from now on and will not return to visit cousin Vinnie again. His hospitality wore thin...
Read moreToday I was in the mood for wings. I have had Vinnie's recommended to me as THE place to go for wings, so we went. Pulling up to the end of the strip mall, sure enough - "Chicken Wings" painted right along the top of the walls facing the highway. It's a divey little "seat yourself" sort of place with eclectic wall hangings - very unpretentious. We were welcomed in and invited to sit wherever we liked, so we sat. We were promptly asked for our drink order and shortly after that our wings order was in. As we typically do, we ordered a buffalo flavor with medium heat and bleu cheese.
I was initially disappointed that I could not request the wings be grilled. This was quickly dispelled when our food arrived. The wings were meaty, juicy, with delightfully crispy skin. The sauce was flavorful and just spicy enough to get our noses running. The bleu cheese was tasty and chunky. The french fries were crispy and hot.
Basically, we were very pleased. We love these relaxed homey places to eat, and found this one to house some of the best wings we have had anywhere along with fast and friendly service. Sure, they are a little pricier than we are used to, but we both agreed that we would make the drive again for this experience.
If you like fantastic wings, aren't looking for mid to up-scale dining, but are willing to pay a little more for quality food, make it a point to visit Cousin Vinnies. I'm glad we were...
