My friend and I came here on a weekday for happy hour. We got a seat outside, which was nice. We ordered the goat cheese fritters, chickpea fritters, and meatballs. Everything was medicore at best. The chickpea fritters desperately needed a dipping sauce. The meatballs weren't tender. The portion sizes were TINY. I get that it's happy hour, so portions will be smaller, but we were still starving after ordering 3 appetizers. I ordered the red shrimp garganelli to go. Came home a bit later, excited to eat it, and was SO disappointed. The shrimp were miniscule and overcooked and the sauce was dry. You wouldn't even know it was shrimp if the description on the menu didn't say so. If I'm paying $23 for a shrimp pasta, the shrimp better be big and cooked well. Just an absolute disappointment overall, will not be back. This review is NOT a reflection of the service! Our server was excellent.

Had dinner at The Wine Kitchen in Leesburg, and while the food was mostly on point, the service left much to be desired. We sat at the bar and unfortunately, our server seemed completely disinterested in serving us, showing a noticeably different attitude when interacting with other (white, American) couples at the bar. It was disappointing to feel this lack of warmth and attentiveness, especially when dining out is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. On the bright side, the food was quite good overall, with fresh flavors and well-prepared dishes. However, the Spaghetti alla Norma missed the mark—burnt eggplant overpowered what should have been a standout dish. The rest of our meal was enjoyable, but the service really dampened the experience. It’s a shame, because the potential for a great evening was there.

Fifth visit to Wine Kitchen, first Google review of it. First, get reservations. There aren't a lot of tables, and it's popular. Second, don't miss out on the mixed drinks. Yes the wine selection is terrific (particularly the flights), but they tend to have some unique drinks that are tasty. Third, get the roasted brussel sprout salad/appetizer or the giant meat ball. They're fantastic. Fourth, avoid the beef cheek unless you're looking for something reminiscent of "grandma's Sunday pot roast." My personal favorite is the pepper pasta with the steak added. They also once had a King Salmon special and a Short Rib special that were world-class but those aren't on the day-to-day menu. Lastly, if you forget a reservation, the bar has maybe 6-8 seats and I've managed to squeeze in there before.

Update: this restaurant wrote me a long letter apologizing for what happened (detailed below). It was genuine and I will be returning because, like I said, everything except the mistake was excellent.

When the tab was presented at the end of our meal, this place attempted to re-charge for an expensive wine flight that I had pre-paid when I made the reservation. Assuming I had misunderstood, I logged into my credit card account from the table (which is the last thing I feel like doing on a date) and sure enough there is the fully posted $141 charge from Wine Kitchen. When confronted, the restaurant assured me they would have 'caught it' later. Well, why not catch it before the bill is placed before the customer? This leaves an EXTREMELY bitter taste, and voids the trust. To make matters worse, they accused us of being confused. We were not confused. The only thing confusing is the fact that they felt cheating would yield more money out of us - which is the opposite of the truth. We are big spenders and big tippers, and this was our first meal, since relocating from the city, that actually felt upscale. Everything was excellent until the $141 over-charge. Not cool. I am so disappointed honestly, because I would have gladly and eagerly returned based on the food, wine and vibe - which were outstanding and easily comparable to the best of Baltimore, D.C., and Manhattan. Honestly,...

I had the pleasure of visiting The Wine Kitchen for a special anniversary celebration, and I must say, the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The staff were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with warmth and professionalism. The attention to detail was evident, and every staff member we interacted with made us feel valued and well-cared for. One of the highlights of the evening was the anniversary card placed on our table before our arrival. This thoughtful gesture went a long way in making us feel special and important. It’s these small touches that truly set a place apart and create lasting memories. Overall, the evening was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, a beautiful setting, and thoughtful gestures made it a memorable experience. I highly recommend The Wine Kitchen to anyone looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a wonderful evening out.

Thank you once again for making our anniversary celebration so special. We look forward to...

I don't know if hidden gem is the right word but the Wine Kitchen consistently has some of the strongest menu offerings in a town with great food. I do not know who the chef is or what they are up too but I have never had a meal that didn't leave me wanting to eat there again the next day. I recently ordered the shrimp pasta and it was thoughtful and unctuous and had the right amount of zing. I'm not a seafood pasta guy typically but this one blew me away. My favorite thing about this place is that they can be, what I like to call, effortlessly vegan. Their vegan and vegetarian offerings are beautiful and filling dishes that would impress anyone who is typically spooked by use of the v words. Also shoutout to the bar and service staff who are knowledgeable and friendly and make the traditionally daunting task of choosing wine a breeze. I know how intimidating a large wine menu can be but perfectly paired wine flights, whimsical descriptions, and patient servers make this a great place for a person new to wine as well as the...
