I wanted to like this place a lot. A coffee house is very much welcome in the neighborhood, it's conveniently located near the library and park. Unfortunately, some of the stuff we got was less than good.
Went in with my wife, and we ordered a specialty coffee, a standard breve, and 2 brisket kolaches.
The specialty coffee, which I think was some kind of lavender honey oatmilk latte, was good, my wife was pretty happy. Good enough to get again.
The staff wasnt sure what a breve was, so I explained it, and it was not bad, but also unremarkable, it tasted like drip coffee with half and half, which fine, it's not far from it, but didn't get much from the coffee itself. In most of the specialty coffeehouses you can taste the gourmet coffee with an Americano even with half and half / milk, but I didnt get those flavors or aroma here. I can see how you don't necessarily need that for flavored coffees, so I'm thinking that's their specialty rather than the staples.
The kolaches were a complete miss. They were cold, tasted like the cheapest off brand white bread, had hardly any brisket and it wasnt even fresh, and even the cheap kraft cheese was light. They'd be smart to either rethink their kolaches or ditch them.
Prices were average, the cashier was nice, everyone else pretty average. I do like the place, very cozy and spacious.
Altogether, it was ok. I'll probably be back at some point out of convenience, but nonetheless it was disappointing. You will probably be quite happy if flavored coffee is your thing, but it's not the place for the freshest...
Read moreCheck the hours before you go - they're closed Monday and open a little later on the weekend. Large parking lot. No drive thru. There's plenty of both inside and outside seating. It's far enough from high traffic that it's pretty quiet. It's so cute inside. Right next door to the library. The coffee is delicious - I already knew that from visiting the coffee truck. I recommend the poppy latte. I'll definitely return to hang out with friends and work a little using their Wi-Fi. IMO this would be the perfect cozy spot to work on homework or meet up with friends for coffee. When it's cooler outside you can hang out on the side porch. Owners, please consider serving a simple breakfast and you'll really pull in a lot of customers. This is exactly the kind of coffee shop I've been waiting to see in San Antonio. I love it and I would enjoy watching your business continue to grow. Your...
Read moreWe have been customers/fans of Poppy's since they were a trailer in the H‑E‑B parking lot, their drinks never disappoint. As with any evolving business comes the inevitable changes and adjustments for customers, etc., however it is a bit disappointing to see the number of non-service related dogs within their new, small brick & mortar business; this visit had 3 dogs all in the small living room area. Hygienic issues aside, the lack of courtesy & awareness for those who may suffer from dog/pet related allergies was alarming. I could understand if the patrons moved to the beautiful patio after ordering however this was not the case & I could not wait to get my order and exit. I hope Poppy's management reconsiders their policy on non-service related pets so all can continue to enjoy their...
