We stopped here for a late lunch while traveling in late May. We were looking for somewhere to grab a late lunch and drove past it. We sat at the outside bar. Most of the inside tables were empty but the outside tables were pretty full as well as the bar but there were two open seats.
We ordered drinks and looked over the food menus. The bartender was busy with drinks and she was servicing tables near the bar. Eventually we ordered food. We both had tacos. I ordered the Nashville fish tacos. I was expecting them to be a little spicy. The description said hot honey, cilantro lime slaw, and Tabasco mayo. I don’t know if what I was served was actually what I ordered because it wasn’t spicy at all. I didn’t taste any hot honey. There was cabbage on the top but I don’t think it was cilantro or lime. There was a mayo sauce on the top that might have been chipotle but it wasn’t hot like Tabasco. There were a lot of lot of pickles. The fish was good though. I substituted a side salad for the chips that would have come with it. That was ok. The shrimp tacos were good. The sauce on it looked the same as the Nashville tacos but that also wasn’t spicy which was fine because the person eating them doesn’t like things too spicy. He enjoyed the cole slaw too.
I wish I could say the bartender was friendly and attentive but she wasn’t. She wasn’t mean or dismissive but it seemed like she maybe had other things she wanted to be doing on that day and didn’t really want to be there. That’s the impression I got. Maybe it was the crowd at the bar that just wasn’t vibing with her. There was one patron who was pretty loud and verging on obnoxious but several others seemed to know him.
The atmosphere was casual and its right in the water so you have that ambience. The prices were comparable to other similar places we have been....
Read moreI DON'T WANT TO GIVE ANY STAR!!!!We have been going to the Wheelhouse for the last 2 years even though the food has been declining in quality, but last night we had the worst experience. They refused to serve our daughter a drink because when she gave the ID to the waitress my husband confused her birthday with our youngest daughter, and told the waitress the wrong year. The waitress told us that she was going inside the restaurant and check for our daughters ID (this has never happened in any other restaurant we "and our daughter by herself" have been before). We asked for the manager, for a reason why they wouldn't serve her her drink, and the manager confirmed that the fact that my husband made a mistake and that our daughter's ID is from California (SHE LIVES IN CALIFORNIA)MADE THEM "uncomfortable". I guess that in her opinion we look like the kind of parents that could give to our kids fake IDs??? The ignorant and rude manager also said that how come a FATHER forgets her own daughter birthday.!!!We also wanted to return an order of nacho because it has bacon (which we had specifically explained to the untrained waitress that we didn't eat meat) and the manager said that we should have read the menu careful, and told us that she wasn't going to change it and therefore we had to pay for it !!!!!!! We didn't eat nor drink, and consequently we refused to pay for the meal. Ignorant manager told us she was going to...
Read moreEvery weekend we choose a different restaurant on Friday evenings, like a random rotation. Last night, was the wheelhouse. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately turned off. The 2 man musical group was playing so loud that I could hardly bare it. There were 8 or 10 people in restaurant/bar area backing to the deck (of course closed since it is January). We sat down, again music playing so loudly it was difficult to talk to one another. The bartender asked if we wanted a menu, we said yes, handed them to us, and walked away. Ten plus minutes goes by, and literally didn't even look at us, he spoke to regulars/friends etc. We had to flag him down to get us a drink. He proceeded to ignore us until we had to flag him down again to order nachos, 15+ minutes later. Another group walked in and sat at bar, and he spent the entire time talking to them. Nachos were awful, cheese was cold, and for some odd reason it had fried onions on them (we've had their nachos many times never with fried onions). The entire time, the musicians played their 'canned music entirely too loud and there little fan base were the only 5 people listening. We picked at the nachos finished our beers and had to wave down the unfriendly/obtuse bartender yet again to ask for our check. We will be taking the Wheelhouse permanently off our weekend rotation, it...
