Before coming here, I read some people’s less-than-favorable reviews of this place, and thought, “What a bunch of Karens!” Well, I’m about to join the ranks of the Karens with this review. I came with a group of 4 other people, and it was during Restaurant Week, so it’s possible that negatively affected our service. I will tell you that the atmosphere here is swanky and quaint and intimate and interesting. It’s a renovated house, and they did a great job on the decor and the layout. I love the tree in the deck and the bourbon bottle chandelier. The background music is mellow and adds nicely to the ambiance. We made a reservation, and we arrived at our appointed time and were immediately seated. The restaurant is small and was about halfway full, so it didn’t seem at all bustling or chaotic or overwhelming from our standpoint. We waited about 5 minutes before a server came to greet us and give us water - it wasn’t our server, just someone else who came as a favor. After 5 minutes more, our server came, and he said he’d take our drink orders, but when we started ordering, he said he needed a pen and paper, so he had to leave and come back. The mixed drinks came quickly and were really good and very strong. Then we waited 45 more minutes for him to come back and get our food orders. By this time we were getting hangry, and we found out they give bread upon request. We got some of that, and it was flavorful and crisp and served with melty butter that was delicious. We also got loaded potato soup and unanimously agreed it was delectable. When we ordered our meals, we all got NY Strips from the Restaurant Week menu. We ordered them Medium Rare or Medium. When they came out, some were Medium, and some were Well Done (none were Med Rare). My steak was Medium, as I had ordered, and it was flavorful and juicy and perfect. My friend’s was cooked so much it was tough and chewy and hard to cut. Our server comped her meal, so that was good, but he seemed really irritated by us the whole time, and also very frantic and harried. There were long stretches of time when we wouldn’t see him at all. I understand we were getting a substantial discount because it was Restaurant Week, and I’m sure the servers aren’t happy when their tickets, and therefore their tips, are reduced because of the Prix Fixe menu. We had all already planned to leave generous tips because we understand that concept, but we just felt unwanted in the restaurant, like we were bothersome. I have to say that service is a huge component of the reputation of a restaurant of this caliber. Malone’s is about the same price, but they really understand how to treat their customers. They have servers’ assistants and bussers and are able to provide much smoother dining experiences. We were scoping The Blue Heron out as first-timers, and if it had been amazing, we definitely would’ve come back and ordered off the regular menu. As it stands now, I don’t think I will return here. I can go to several other restaurants in Lexington and know I’ll receive exceptional food and service for the same cost every single time. The Blue Heron seems...
Read moreWile visiting Lexington ky me and the wife and 2 of our best friends decided to try this place out. After making reservations online they called me and asked if we planned on showing up for our reservations we just made and I was like yes we just made the reservation because we wanted to try it out. So after getting to the Blue Heron we was greeted and seated as usual with any typical sit down restaurant. Then the waitress gave us our menu and we decided on what we was gonna have to eat and she took our order. Me and one of my friends decided to have the 8 oz steak meal both medium well wich came with 2 sides we both got salads mine with balsamic vinegar and hers with ranch and I had asparagus and she had a baked potato my other friend decided on the chicken meal it also came with a salad and he requested ranch also and my wife who wasn't feeling good anyway decided on just a baked potato and a glass of sprite. When the waitress started bringing out the food. Right off both my friends said their salads taste awful upon further investigation we figured out they had brought them Blue cheese dressing and not ranch so they explained it to the waitress and she corrected the mistake. And then I noticed my wife not drinking her sprite and I asked her was it ok and she is not one to complain said its ok so I took a drink from her glass and it was just water and syrup no carbonation at all so I explained to the waitress that her sprite was flat and tasted awful and she corrected that also. After our steaks arrived I started to eat my meal and my steak was good nothing to complain about at all. But my other friend who also had the stak meal was having a hart time with her steak because it was so tough she couldn't chew it. So after she explained it to the waitress the waitress took off and was not seen again and all the sudden the rude man walks up to our table and ask if there was something wrong and after explaining to him what was wrong he said and I quote( ok this has been an problematic table since your arrival any way) and if your trying to get out of paying for your food I will call the law. And after he realized he was barking up the wrong tree he decided he would just let us have all our meals for free. But we explained to him we didn't expect nothing for free we just wanted what we ordered and he just kept talked to us like we was straight garbage by this time I decided I had to leave our I was gonna hit him. I barely ate anything I ordered anyway so I was good with the breaking even and finding somewhere else to eat but my friend with the chicken meal wouldn't let the manager give his meal for free and insisted on paying for his so final they took his money and we left. I would not recommend anyone ever going to the Blue Heron to have any kind of meal they are not friendly at all and treat people...
