Tokyo Grill — Restaurant in Lexington

Tokyo Grill is a local chain. The concept is quick hibachi food that is ready to serve. With over 9 locations! Congrats J & D! Many are independently operated; This creates an issue with the homogeneity of food quality across different stores; For example a store owner may order a specific brand of rice or chicken from a different food service than another TG. So that can account for some of the large shifts in quality you might experience as a loyal customer. Especially if you go between locations. The food is kept covered, unless it's a rush and theres a need for faster service. If you are a regular of TG examine your food for the quality that you expect. Ask the employee how long ago it was prepared, you can request fresh food, but as a former employee the quality of food that is kept warm in the steam table doesn't change much besides shrimp check quality always...however if you are coming in at closing time they will not cook fresh food because cleaning the grill area for the night is a big job usually the cooks will start around 15 minutes before the store is set to close. Many of my friends and myself have worked across several different stores. Great company for a minimum wage starting position, maybe a first management position.

TLDR: TG's quality is easily worth the lower price vs a full hibachi...

If I could give a half a star rating I would. I'm sitting here in the restaurant with a full plate of food in front of me. My husband and I have been coming here for over ten years since we met in high school. And today has been my worst experience here. Not only did we wait over five minutes for our food while the store was EMPTY but the employees were chatting and nobody was cooking. Then our food is brought out to us and my husband first bite is ice cold. Clearly they were too busy to care when we got our food or the quality of the food itself. There is a mountain of pepper all over the chicken, rice and veggies when it used to be just a small amount! For $20 for two meals I expect hot food and I expect quality food when I've been coming here 10+ years with good experiences. All I wish to come from this review is for the owner to see this and know the customer service was awful and the food was subpar to what it used to be. From a customer perspective as well as a DoorDash driver perspective, Tokyo Grill is hands-down one of the best places to order from. The staff is incredibly friendly, I’m always greeted with a smile and their customer service is top-notch. The restaurant is always clean and inviting. The food is consistently amazing and ready exactly when it’s supposed to be. They never miss the small but important things, like including napkins, cutlery, straws etc so I never have to worry about a customer lacking anything in their order. I’ve never had an order that needed to be updated or changed because of an issue, which speaks volumes about their consistency, professionalism and how reliable and organized they are.
