We used to love this place. We told many people this was the best mexican in town. Can't tell you how many people we referred and as a manager of a business I used them to cater some events. Last 2 visits have been less than stellar. My wife is gluten free and quite intolerant (not celiac). A touch of gluten from cross contamination gives her stomach issues for a while and makes her feel gross. Tonight she ordered from their GLUTEN FREE Menu. When her dinner arrived she took a bite and realized that what she had was a wheat tortilla, not a corn (it was covered in a sauce, not easy to tell). I took a bite and confirmed. We called over another server who was available (ours was not around) and told him of the situation. He said I will tell the manager and I am going to leave this here so they can see it for themselves. Our server arrived moments later and stated "THEY messed it up? I will have THEM make another" She did arrive a few moments later with the correct dinner and told us it was on the house. Never was their an apology, never a visit from the manager. It was treated like someone ordered chicken and got steak. Even then you would expect a genuine heartfelt apology. The server was less than friendly the entire time we were there and it seemed like it was an annoyance that we were there. Oh, but it gets worse. Upon leaving to pay the bill I was asked how everything was to which I answered, "not so good." i explained the disappointment and was told by "maybe the manager" yeah, I told her to take it off the bill. The cashier finished with "if we could go back in time we would make sure it was right... have a good evening." I was a bit shocked. They really don't understand that the fact that it entered her mouth is going to lead to a rather uncomfortable day or so. This was strike 2. The time before we were there, they made a similar mistake with a flour tortilla bowl for a salad. That was obvious so we caught it and the manager was very apologetic and sincere. we were not wanting a free meal, just a nice time out. A very sincere apology and "we will make sure that does not happen again." would have sufficed. Bottom line, food is good, service can be very marginal. If you are gluten intolerant or...
Read moreWe've been going to La Paz for at least 15-18 years now (so we've been here for the original owners & the current ones). We were sad when COVID hit and we weren't able to go for over a year. The cravings were horrible! Going back finally, we weren't disappointed. This place is always absolutely amazing.
Their salsa is absolutely pure crack and actually got me to eat whole tomatoes (my mother about died). I love the fresh warm salty tortilla chips that come with it. And I really like everyone gets their own little portion (so my husband can't eat it all).
Fast favorites that have never disappointed for me are: Potato skins with bacon, scallions and cheese Golden quesadilla with chicken and mushrooms The cheese & onion enchiladas (I sub queso sauce for the red)
My spouse always has trouble trying to pick what he wants to eat (he can't decide! too many wonderful choices), but enjoys whatever he gets each and every time. He does really love their steak fajitas though!
The staff is always nice and attentive. The prices are good for what you get and the portion sizes.
The only bad experience we've ever had was once they got my order wrong and instead of cheese & onion enchiladas, they gave me the chicken cream cheese with queso on top... for a screw up, it was seriously delicious and if I wasn't so addicted to my cheese & onion enchiladas... I'd totally get it again. And only complaint is that I miss the old vegetarian refried beans, but just because I'm not a fan of the pork fat variety or black beans (which took it's place).
If I could give them a 10 I absolutely would. No matter what other same style restaurants we try. They always pale in comparison and we come...
Read moreMy review is based my experience tonight. Due to that experience i give it a 1 star. Been going since I was a little girl. My husband and I adopted this place as our new spot after our "first date" night restaurant burned down a few years ago. Tonight will be the last night I will ever step into this restaurant. That is unless the owners have something to say about the service my husband and I received. I asked if adults could order from the kids menu. The answer was no. We were fine with that answer, but I was curious to knownifbit would be honored bc i have medical card stating I need smaller portions. The waitress was disgusted with this question and drew so much attention to our table. Stated over and over that the kids menu are for parents trying to feed their families and so they can afford it. I never implied this was about money, nor did it cross my mind to swindle them in anyway, I just didn't want to waste the food. The waitress would not let us have a conversation with her, she controlledthe entire situation. She kept making a scene. She was so inappropriate and rude. I have never been shamed like that as a grown adult, by another grown adult. The manager was in full support of his employee. I find this wrong. Shaming people bc of a medical decision to be a healthier person? A simple im sorry we cannot honor that" would have sufficed. So...
