One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in ages. This was a total failure across the board. I don't know where to start. "Slow" Sitara is probably more accurate of a name. First when we arrived, they said it would be a less than 10 minute wait for a table. We actually waited 20 minutes. Then nobody came to give us menus. We had to ask two different people. Took 10 minutes to get menus.

Apparently they are supposed to come give us hand wash, but we didn't get this benefit. We only found this out after seeing every other table after us get it. We received a small mango drink, but other tables got a different drink served in small clay matkas. Not sure why we got something different. We didn't get silverware, we had to ask for it. Paper napkins and ONE Kirkland room-temperature water bottle (they never gave more), which is ridiculous for an "upscale" restaurant. What kind of full service restaurant doesn't have glasses for water to serve customers?

4 of the 6 of our party ordered thalis. 2 of us ordered a la carte. The a la carte food came out after at a decent time. I ordered paneer butter masala but they didn't bring a plate. I had to ask 3 times to 2 different people to get a plate.

The 4 thalis took nearly 45 minutes to come out. Totally unacceptable to do this, especially when some of the party has received their food already. I was waiting for all the food to come out to eat together, so my food (paneer butter masala) was stone cold by the time the thalis came. Even then, the thalis were inconsistent or incomplete. Only 1 thali had a laddoo and the others didn't for some reason. They initially told us thalis come with either puris or roti, but it came out with roti only and said they couldn't do puris. It also came with 1 roti, when we saw other thalis at other tables get 2 rotis. Thali was also supposed to come with yogurt (what they initially told us), but we didn't get that either. We were also told "unlimited" thali but they literally never came to refill anything.

The food was overall between underwhelming to mediocre. Nothing special and a little pricey.

The service was overall lackluster. Slow, inconsistent, and we had to ask for things repeatedly.

The ambiance is just ok, nothing mind blowing. Bathrooms were gross and filthy. Someone's chair broke in half while they were sitting in it! Poor lady probably got hurt, and at the least it must have been so embarrassing. So they clearly use cheap quality chairs.

They auto charged us 18% gratuity for our party size, then the server had the gall to say if we wanted to tip the staff we had to do it in cash. So what was the 18% gratuity we paid? It doesn't go to the wait staff? Totally disgusting and unethical practice.

We had high expectations but left super disappointed. We won't be back. Don't go here. Don't waste your time or money, especially when there are SO many other options...

Restaurant Review: Sitara Grand, Dallas

Nestled in the heart of Dallas, Sitara Grand is a culinary gem that seamlessly combines a vibrant atmosphere with an impressive menu. From the moment you step inside, you are enveloped in an ambience that strikes a perfect balance between elegance and warmth. The décor is a blend of modern and traditional elements, with soft lighting, tasteful artwork, and comfortable seating that invites you to relax and enjoy your meal.

The service at Sitara Grand is noteworthy; the staff is attentive without being intrusive. Their knowledge of the menu is commendable, and they are more than happy to offer recommendations based on your preferences.

Now, let’s talk about the food. The menu showcases a delightful variety of dishes, each beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For starters, the appetizer platter is a must-try, featuring an assortment of samosas, pakoras, and flavorful chutneys that set the tone for a fantastic meal. The highlight, however, is the signature biryani—an aromatic dish that is both tender and rich, filled with spices that tantalize the taste buds.

Vegetarians will find a treasure trove of options, with dishes like the paneer tikka masala and dal makhani garnering rave reviews. Each dish reflects a perfect blend of spices, delivering that authentic taste that keeps you coming back for more. While the menu is extensive, everything we tried was superb, proving that quality is a top priority for the kitchen staff.

Desserts are often overlooked, but Sitara Grand has a selection that deserves attention. The gulab jamun is a sublime conclusion to an extraordinary meal, simply melting in your mouth with its perfect balance of sweetness.

Overall, Sitara Grand is more than just a restaurant; it's a complete dining experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a delicious meal, this place sets the stage for great memories. The combination of fabulous food, an inviting atmosphere, and exceptional service makes Sitara Grand a must-visit for anyone in Dallas. I’m already looking forward to...

Saw a lot of negative reviews about the quality of the food in this restaurant so hesitated a little to try. The entrance was welcoming and decorated ‘grandly’. The painting of SV Ranga Rao on the wall put an immediate smile on my face. Those who are Telugu know the famous song Vivaha Bhojanambu from the movie Maya Bazaar. They only had thalis for lunch and we ordered the Veg Thali. A waitress came around with water to wash our hands at the table. After we ordered, they brought us our water and welcome drink. The thali came out pretty fast in less than 10 minutes. They brought out mirchi bajji as well. They had a chapati on each plate, along with mamidikaya pappu, bendakaya vepudu, chamadumpa pulusu, rasam, sambar and perugu. They also had a little bit of pulav. For desserts they had laddoo and some double ka meetha. The Thali itself was unlimited but everything on the plate is more than enough. The dosakaya roti pachadi was super tasty and reminded me of Andhra mess back home. I only removed a star because the food wasn’t as hot as I expected, chapati (at least mine) was dry, and the bajji was plain. Since it didn’t have any chutney to dip in, it was very dry in the mouth. Despite this, eating at this restaurant is a vibe and needs to be experienced to enjoy. Every tasted very very good and will definitely try to come back and eat more thalis. Do not understand the negative reviews. If you close to this restaurant do not forget to try their thalis for lunch. They also have a non-veg thalis. I ordered a goli soda as well and it tasted just like back home. A ton of stores and rests are carrying this brand now, so if you happen upon them do not forget to try.

Tried both the Veg and Non-Veg Thali today. Overall, the experience was great. I and my wife were welcomed promptly and shown our seats on the rather quaint looking chairs [the whole decor is probably tuned to an Indian wedding sit down dinner look]. We were given an opportunity to wash our hands at the table and then served a welcome drink [sprite + blue Curacao = blue lagoon]. The only items on the lunch menu as part of the soft launch are the thali's. The Veg Thali today consisted of Punugulu + a roti pachadi, Spinach Dal, Karela sabji, a mixed veg curry, a cauliflower gravy masala, Sambar, Rasam, Curd, Veg Biriyani, Rice, Kesari as the sweet and Paapad. The Non-veg Thali had Chicken curry, Chicken Fry, Mutton Curry instead of the veg equivalents. They were brought out on a pretty heavy brass thali plate lined with a banana leaf - the cutlery and cups were all in a brass-finish and felt quite substantial. The quality of the food was excellent and every thing is served in unlimited quantities. The service was attentive and prompt, without being overly obtrusive. Whatever additional we requested came out promptly. If I had to nit-pick, I thought the Cauliflower curry was a tad too sweet, and the Mix-veg curry a little too salty for my taste, but still they tasted very good. The other items were absolutely spot on and delicious. My overall experience was extremely positive, and the whole meal for the two of us, under $40, was great value for money. We hope they continue to maintain the standards and that they add to the variety of thalis and other menu offerings [as they plan to do once the soft launch is over]. We will be back!
