First let me say that the bartender was worth visiting again. He was nice, entertaining, and made a great negroni. Also, the filet was excellent. Those reasons are why this place gets 3 stars. It got dinged because our server actually complained about us bringing in our own wine(which I'm pretty sure is not illegal) and he proceeded to do a piss-poor opening and presentation after we told him we could just open ourselves if he was going to be so put out by it. UGH. He also vocalized his frustration at us paying and tipping the bartender before we sat down so that he missed that tip. Dude, you didn't mix our drinks and entertain us, bartender did. Bartender gets the tip. He tried to recover with light banter but had already lost us as an audience. Several slightly snide comments later he tells us that we were supposed to be one of his VIP tables(humble brag). Could have fooled us, buddy! I hate to see how he treats the rude tables if that were true. Also, we felt rushed. Here's the deal, we like to eat, drink, and talk and are happy to pay for the privilege to do so in your establishment. We do not want to feel unwelcome or hurried. The biggest hint that it was time for us to leave was when our server told us that we probably wouldn't want any of the desserts that he had left and he didn't want to bother the kitchen. OOOOkkkkaaayyyy. Never mind then. Turned out that the kitchen was not bothered a bit and sent out a sampler plate. And they were all good. Winner. Too late to order a cup of coffee though, it wasn't ten o'clock yet. Then the valet came up to our table, asked if this was the key to our car, tossed it on the table, and turned tail. Saved that tip money, I guess.
We have been baffled lately by some of the poor service we've received at some of the pricier restaurants in town and 42 is not immune to this epidemic.
Again, bartender was cool. Food was good. Server was neither. Valet was lame. Get it...
Read moreI greatly enjoyed a business lunch at Forty Two with 10 colleagues on a recent trip to Little Rock. I was amazed by the menu, the foot was excellent, and the prices were hard to believe. The menu includes a variety of upscale items including regional favorites, such as grits and catfish. I greatly enjoyed the "Hot and Sweet Buffalo Chicken" which was "Buttermilk Breaded Chicken Breast tossed with Chef Burrow’s House Hot Sauce and set atop a bed of “Mac n’ Moody Blue Cheese”". The Chicken was tender and perfectly done, and the Mac n' Cheese included an excellent balance of cheese sauce incorporating just the right amount of blue cheese. I also ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries with Wasabi Aoli, which were not too greasy, just the right balance between crunchy and chewy. Enjoyment.
The service started out amazing. Coffee. Done. Drinks. Done. However, once our order was taken and food delivered, it was so-so.
The atmosphere is very appealing, a modern white tablecloth style layout with a great view of the River and the landscaping surrounding the museum.
Overall, an excellent experience. Elegant food, affordable price. I would visit Forty Two for lunch or dinner, even without being at the Clinton Museum for any other...
Read moreI speak of my visit to 42 often. It is an example of hospitality as it should be.
We arrived at the Library from a long morning road trip at a quarter to 2pm. Lunch stopped at 2pm. We rushed down (it is below the main floor as the library has a unique architectural design) and they welcomed us warmly. Most places when a party comes in this close to closing, they let you know, but not here.
We were the only table at this point so we got THE best service. The young man who served us - please forgive that I do not know his name, I hope he reads this over the years - could not have tried harder. He was really very nice.
I asked for a creamy chardonnay, he brought out a wine, it was perfect and then gave a heavy pour. Cheers!
The food was excellent. The Presidential Club with avocado was excellent. The Iced Tea was excellent.
The decor is as the rest of the museum. Moderne simplicity with lot's of glass. Crisp white tablecloths and stemware with the Presidential seal.
I will be returning later this year for a visit and look forward to having that creamy...
