This place was very close to where we were staying for the night so we decided to give it a try. They were not busy so there was no wait time. When we approached the counter to order the girl taking our order literally just stood there and stared at us. No hi, how you doing, can I help you, nothing. Just stood there with a blank look on her face. So we just started telling her what we wanted and she looked as about enthusiastic as someone scheduling a root canal as she took our order. I ordered the hickory smoke burger with fries and my wife picked the chicken strip dinner with fries and a salad. The wait time to get our food wasn't a really long time but was a little longer than I thought it would take to make one burger and some chicken strips and a small salad but there was also orders going out through drive thru so I'm sure that played a part. When the food arrived I was surprised at how small the burger was and how thin the patty was. But it had a good flavor. My wife's chicken was cooked nicely and was moist but both of us agreed that the fries had been cooked in old grease or something and neither of us could eat them. She said the ranch for her salad also had an odd taste like it had gotten hot at one time or another. The whole time we were there we watched the girl behind the counter and decided that she just didn't like being at work because her attitude was the same towards everyone that came in. Overall not a horrible experience but if we're ever through town again we probably...
Read moreI'm giving this place three stars, but I would give it 2.5 if it was an option. I was so excited when this place opened up just down the street from my job. We have picked up lunch at least 15 times, trying several different items on the menu. So here we go...
The smell outside of the restaurant is absolutely divine! The ice they put in their drinks is incredible! The pot roast is delicious! The burgers, the meat tastes fresh, the buns are fresh but can be a bit broken sometimes, and they are not flavorful. There is not much, if any difference in the size of a Black Angus cheeseburger meal and a cheeseburger basket other than the price and a few French fries. The onion rings and French fries are cooked to perfection, but again, no flavor. The dinner salad is a bowl of lettuce and a packet of dressing. Nothing more. The soups, broccoli and cheese and potato are basically the same soup with a base that tastes like cream of chicken. The difference is one has a couple of pieces of boiled potato and the other has a couple of broccoli florets. The chicken sandwich, it was cooked very well, but all I could taste was charcoal. Finally, the cobbler, cooked fruit with a biscuit on top. I don't even know what else to say.
I REALLY want to like this place. The nostalgia combined with the fact that it is a small business and is not fast food chain is what keeps me coming back. If these are not things you care about, pick up some Wendy's or BK, their burgers taste better and they are 1/3...
Read moreWe ordered through the drive thru. I got the bacon cheddar cheeseburger combo with onion rings and my bf got the double mushroom swiss cheeseburger combo with okra. We also ordered a peach cobbler to share. The total was around $34.00. Pretty steep but okay, maybe the food justifies that price but that wasn't the case at all. My cheeseburger had a patty that was too small for the bun, so it had way too much bread. The patty itself was very thin and very dry. The whole burger ate dry. The bacon was not hot or crispy. It was cold and flabby. The bun had been smashed, like it had been flattened. The cheese was nonexistent. If there was some on it, I couldn't tell. My bf had the same complaints for his double mushroom cheeseburger. I will say the onion rings were outstanding. Fresh, crunchy, well-seasoned. The same for the okra. Finally, the peach cobbler was inedible. The pastry was raw and grainy, and the peaches were swimming in water. It was very unpleasant. Maybe if the burgers had been more substantial but they were so small and dry that it did not justify the price. I think my combo was $10.99 and my bf's was about $15. The cobbler was around $5. It was too expensive for what we got. And for a place that chargrills its burgers, there was no discernable...
