I had a very good visit here this morning. In preparation for an event, I stopped in for something to eat, and take for later. I decided PICK-YOUR-PIE was going to be the ticket. 12" pizza, three toppings, and all for a modest price.
I was greeted by a host right at opening and I chose to sit at a table near the street windows. My server; Sheiree soon came to offer the vast selection of adult brews, and pointed out the wine and cocktail lists. Then asked me if I needed a minute to look over things after some nice small talk and a quick pun or two.
It wasn't very long before my chicken, avocado, and olive pizza to arrive with my coffee and water. Hot, and fresh. The crust was great, not too thick, not too thin. Sauce seemed to be a thin marinara, and toppings dispersed in a very balanced distribution. I, unfortunately, discovered a little too late just how amazing the mozzarella was; While pulling a slice to my plate I witnessed the most epic cheese pull I've ever seen! (I regret a few things in my life, but NOT catching this event in a pic is easily top 5.) It was the sort of pull you only see in renders or hand drawn illustrations, moving, I almost cried. The only thing I might try next time, (other than mixing and matching other toppings,) would be asking for a little extra cook time. But I kinda like my thinner crusts to really crunch on the bites. (It makes me feel mighty I guess?)
Good balance of flavors, and a very good pizza. I liked that there was a gooey chew with each bite. And as far as I can see, one of these 12 inch "saucy saucers" can easily be three to four meal/portions. And Sheiree will tend to your party with very good recommendations. (She even offered me a few sheets of paper to stack my "to go" pieces so I didn't wind up with Lasagna!) If you're ever downtown and in the mood for a cozy place to eat, (or already there, working on your platter for the wall!) drop in, ask for Sheiree, and consider trying a slice or two...
Read moreI enjoyed my outing tonight at Flying Saucer. 65 Beers on tap, and another 100 bottles and cans, leaving plenty of choices from around much of the beer world (although some regions curiously absent).
The menu is pretty simple, primarily pub food, absent burgers.
I enjoyed the "Reuben-Esque", "Pastrami, jalapeno-kraut, melted swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on toasted marble rye" with a side of hot German potato salad. It was a respectable sandwich, but nothing special. The jalapeno kraut was an interesting and delicious touch.
I also tried the Caramel and Sea Salt Crepes (Goat cheese filled crepes, caramel and sea salt drizzle). Pretty good, and served with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream and lot of nuts. I normally don't go for desert, but after a full day of travel and only a few granola bars of diet, I was feeling quite hungry.
As far as beers go, Saucer was out of my first two selections, a Core Pumpkin Pie Ale, and a Leaky Roof Pumpkin Mead. I did enjoy a Diamond Bear Pale Ale (Local) and a Youngs Double Chocolate Stout.
The atmosphere was Saucer was pretty cool, a relaxed pub with an authentic feel, and very busy on a Tuesday night (had a hard time getting a table).
Taylor my server was attentive and helped answer some of my questions, being my first few hours in Little Rock. Thanks Taylor.
Overall, a good time at Saucer. Decent food at decent price, and...
Read moreOk, Flying Saucer! I'm liking what they're putting down and we barely know each other! Tonight was my second visit, and I've found myself at The Flying Saucer twice in one week! Also, randomly, both times we had Lynise as our server. This could be the start of something big, right?! (Lol) First visit, we were on a mini March Madness pub crawl and tonight we were getting our bearings while deciding on our downtown dinner spot. (We had a Gus' FAIL tonight and strolled across the street to recoup! -- but don't get me started.) Anywho, when we were seated and then greeted again by our exact same server, I thought to myself... ok, definitely time to review! Lynise is great and super helpful! On my first visit, she introduced me to 2 new ciders that I now love! I told her that I'm an Angry Orchard girl and she recommended the StrongBow and the Pineapple-something cider, then hooked me up with samples. I loved them both, ordered both and gave one to the hubs (but it was really for me), and I even re-ordered the StrongBow again when I returned tonight! I really like the rocket-tots (they had me at the fried egg) and the great vibe at FS! I've been eyeing a few more things on the menu and I'll be back to try more. I guess my FS appeal has been more about Lynise's awesome service and less about anything else, but that totally works for me! LYNISE, YOU ROCK and you've made repeat...
