Honestly, the lack of cars in the parking lot should have been my first clue to RUN!!!! The staff was nice, those that I spoke to. I feel like the poor waitress had to try and deal with a mess of an order, that should have been the responsibility of management which is why service will be a 3 star. There were three of us eating, all three were disappointed with our food. One person ordered a chicken taco and the chicken was burnt and the rice was cold but he was very hungry so suffered through. One kids mac and cheese and rice. Rice was again cold (I tried a bite) the mac and cheese was very gritty. Mine was supposed to be a taco salad.... When I think of a taco salad from a Mexican restaurant, I think of a nice fluffy taco bowl shell filled with all the things, I do not think of nachos..... That's what they served me, a bed of chips and then the absolute WORST vegetarian chili you could imagine. All I could taste was canned tomatoes!!!! I tried to also suffer through because I too was hungry but all I could force down was two bites and I had enough. I also ordered a side of grilled chicken, it came out so burnt and black I was shocked they even served it. I also tried to suffer through this but the chicken was so dry it wasn't worth it. I normally just go on about my day but this time I was not paying for the horrible meal that was served to me. The waitress apologized (not her fault) and offered a replacement, but I for sure am not one to eat a second meal being served scared what might be done to my food (this is in my head, I know) so I politely declined. When the bill came I was shocked that there was still a $24 charge for my "taco salad" and my added grilled chicken. To be honest, I do not even know how this price occurred when the taco salad was $14 and the added chicken was supposed to be $6 according to the menu. I asked the server why the $24 charge was still on my bill when I was disappointed in the meal and did not eat it. She said something along the lines of, they don't really do that here but I can see that you did not really eat any of the meal and I agree, the chicken is burnt, let me see what I can do. I let her know that I was not paying for it, handed her my card for the other VERY disappointing items that were served to us and she returned with a receipt that reflected the amounts that was suitable. All I really know is...... If the parking lot is empty (like it was when I arrived) just keep driving! It's obviously a good indication you are about to receive some of the WORST FOOD, and that is what we all received!!!
Edited to add the date of our dining experience as requested… It was June 25th and I would say...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible all around. The food was 100% NOT Mexican or even anything remotely like authentic Mexican. The tacos looked like tapas, the "Mexican chili" was just a giant bowl of pico de gallo with carrots in it...carrots?? The restaurant is located inside a much larger and REALLY cool old factory building, but the restaurant doesn't capitalize on ANY of the cool historical features of the building. In fact, they completely butchered the original wood flooring, pier and beams as well as some of the other incredibly historic architecture. Then they filled it in with silly, mismatched decorations and wall art that doesn't follow any particular theme whatsoever. It looks more like a hodge podged "cattleman's ranch" version of a South American restaurant. It definitely does not look, feel or taste like Mexican/Tex-Mex. Extremely expensive and disappointing. $20 for the taco salad, which is just a disgusting pile of "fresh greens" plastic textured "salad veggies, some unflavored pico (or "salsa", as they claim), carrots and veggie chili and some pieces of unseasoned chicken or ground beef in the center, "surrounded by a [thin] ring of tortilla chips". That's their version of a Tex-Mex taco salad.
On their website they claimed to have a Tex-Mex menu, but I'm from Texas and I can tell you that this place is as far from anything remotely related to Tex-Mex. Just because you use the names of traditional Tex-Mex dishes, doesn't make your food Tex-Mex. It's hyperbole. Like putting sour cream in a bowl and calling it "ice cream" or "froyo". Just because it has a slightly similar outward appearance and goes in a bowl, does not make...
Read moreThe food is fresh and the service is wonderful; my server Atlas was very attentive and took great care of me. I sat at a high top in the bar. The view of main street is great. The bar is large with a great selection of liquor. Local and other beers on tap. Would be a great place to sit and relax for lunch and have a few drinks.
I had the El Diablo burrito, grilled, and the portion size was decent. Good amount of ground beef and comes with sour cream and salsa. The tortilla was homemade and super fluffy. Very delicious and would make a great chimichanga. The homemade hot sauce was nothing to write home about in terms of flavor but was decent in terms of heat. Probably won’t ask for it again.
I also had the chicharron as an appetizer and it was delightful. My favorite of the meal. Super crispy skin and a nice juicy fat to balance out the salt. Cooked well and not over done so was plump and not dry. For drinks I had a Michelada and for $10 you should stick to a Bloody Maria instead. The homemade Bloody Mary mix is perfect but the serving was less than a pint. Totally not worth what you pay. If it came with a bottle on the side then it would justify the price but all you get is a small glass. Don’t waste your money. I switched to a draft pint beer instead.
Other than that the service was fantastic and the restaurant itself is unique. It’s a bit pricey and they do charge you an extra 3% if you use a credit card. I only noticed because I read the table topper. Be warned. It’s a nice place to stop and visit if you are passing through. Good for a once in a while visit. If I had to actually...
