Al-Wahid Tandoor Express Meat & Grocery — Restaurant in Lombard

AL-Wahid is not only a grocery store but a restaurant/take out and a halal butcher shop too. We stumbled upon this little hidden gem while looking for a different place than the norm to try puri halwa.

It’s a small place but packs all your needs in one stop. We ate there as they have a couple tables. We tried the puri halwa, omelette and chicken patty. We were very pleased with the taste, no greasy puri’s as they are made with flour. The aloo & chenna were not overly done and had a really nice flavor. The halwa was not overly sweet and tea was made fresh with REAL milk! The chicken patty was generous sized, packed with chicken and was super flaky! One of the best in the area. The omelette was served hot with hand made paratha and made nicely.

They had a lot of carry outs while we were eating. It is a small few tables but if you live farther away, it makes sense to eat there. The food was really good so we ordered chicken biryani and Kahdi pakora which turned out to be amazingly delicious! Generous portions too! We also bought frozen hand made beef shami’s to try.

Ali the owner was friendly and helpful with ordering. His store was clean and very well organized. It’s a small store but he had all the essentials with decent pricing and not outdated or expired!!

I couldn't agree more with the manager being incompetent. Ordered through grubhub twice. 1st time they cancelled the whole order, because "they were too busy". The second time they were not able to prepare one of the entrees. The manager calls me, offers something that isnt even close to what I wanted. I ask for another entree that is $3 more than what they stated they couldnt prepare. He gave me such a hard time, we went back and forth. It wasn't until my frustration set and I stated I wanted to cancel the whole order until he decided to accommodate the order. Terrible experience. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM. The manager hung up on me 3 times and I had emails and texts messages confirming my order. He told me we don't deliver and then said he didn't see my order. I did call grubhub and they confirmed my order. Luckily, they refunded my money. I waited over an hour. He was yelling at people in the back thinking he had hung up on me again. I've never experienced such rude behavior from any restaurant! I recommend going with Shaahi Biryani. Much nicer and didn't...
