After talking with a Lombard Police Officer who had just left this restaurant, he HIGHLY recommended I try it. So I went. I was NOT greeted by anyone. The waitress/cashier said nothing while she casually went back and forth to all the tables. She then stated give me a moment. STILL NO hello. She then proceeded to WAIT for the cool to give her the good for a table. Then went I'm the kitchen for something. The cooks just LOOKED at me. Waitress came back and waited for another plate from the cool and went to serve it. VERY DISHEARTENING!!!!!!! I had my cash in my hand!!!! I had walked all day downtown and just wanted a meal and to go home. Even as I started walking towards the door the waitress CONTINUED to ignore and the cooks NO LONGER cooking an order JUST LOOKED. As I got in my car the waitress went to get a place setting for who????? I was the ONLY customer that hadn't been waited on. IF I could give a negative five......I WOULD!!!!! I never got to taste the food BUT I NEVER have to spend my money with a business or employer who DOESN'T respect, value, or give me service. BEFORE YOU comment YOUR great experience......MINE WASN'T and...
Read moreI had the most amazing late breakfast down the street from the convention hotel at Los Burritos Tapitios. Prices are reasonable, portions are big, service is fast and friendly. They set the table with free chips and salsa. The salsa is thick and chunky and very hot. Nice way to wake me up! Then they set three different bottles of housemade hot sauces on the table, along with shakers of both red pepper flakes and Mexican oregano. This place is legit! The Huevos con Chorizo ($8.99) was huge and incredibly tasty. It came with tortillas, rice & beans, and a side plate heaped with fresh cilantro, diced red onion, and lime slices. I’ve always wanted to try Menudo so I ordered a bowl ($9.49) as I figured this was the kind of place to have great menudo. It was HUGE and the broth was heaven. Full disclosure, I try to not be picky but the big chunks of tripe were too much of a texture nightmare for me. Loved all the flavors, and now I’ve tried it, but probably never again. And of course I had to get a bottle of Mexican Coke ($2.09) to wash it all down. This was a very fun experience with...
Read moreA clean place with booths, an open kitchen, and a steady lunch crowd. Good table service accompanied by complimentary crispety crunchety chips. The default salsa is very mild and tomato-y in a very refreshing way. I asked for something hotter and the server brought out three more salsas: a cooked (medium hot) verde; a fresh, quenching, avocado verde (also medium); and a roasty/spicy salsa quemada, which was great and the hottest of the selection. They all tasted freshly made, with little hints of basil and oregano, and they were served in very clean squirt bottles. I had three tacos: al pastor, which was crisp, tender, juicy, and flavorful; lengua, which was tender, but standard; and chorizo. It was a perfect chorizo taco. Nicely grilled, evenly crumbled, and not too greasy. All the taco toppings (different combinations of lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and cilantro, depending on the meat) were fresh and in the right proportions. I'll be back soon...
