Greek Islands Lombard — Restaurant in Lombard

Terrible service, we were rushed, food was out in 8 minutes. They made the original greek salad with a bunch of lettuce and 2 small tomatoes- obviously to save time instead of cutting up all the ingredients. We had called around 8:30 pm and asked if we could make a reservation or if it was too late. They said as long as we got there before 9:15 pm, that we would be set. We arrived before 9 pm, and the waiter seemed annoyed with having to pick up a new table so late, we felt the negative vibes so we asked if he preferred for us to just order some wine and an appetizer. He insisted that it wasn't a problem. I asked one more time, just to be sure, and he said we could order anything and it was no problem. He came back to our table 5 times in 5 minutes (before we even had our wine) so we felt pressured to pick quickly. It was around 7-8 mins before our food came out. Food was rushed and you could tell. No flavor at all, for a $17 dish. The wine recommended was the most expensive bottle, and it wasn't even good. Seemed like they just wanted to get us in and out. We were still eating our dinner, this was around 9:35 pm, so we had literally only been sitting for like 35 mins total and the waiter brought the check. We never asked for it, and then he picked it up twice without us having put our payment in the book. He then came back to ask where our payment was and we said we hadn't put it in there yet. (we were obviously annoyed with this whole situation so since we were going to pay this ridiculous bill anyway we figured we would enjoy our wine in peace and pay when we were finished). At this point, I was so embarrassed that I recommended this place to my date. I asked the waiter how he would feel if this all happened to him and he was apologetic. Still doesn't make up for the terrible experience, and they never discounted or comped anything on our bill. Not that we expected it, but it probably could have eased our nerves. Will not be back. Also have heard terrible reviews from local police officers that...

We did not start out on the right foot. More on this later as I don't want to take away from a delightful dining experience after we were seated.

The food and service was excellent! We had never been there before and did not have much experience with Greek food. The menu is enormous and offers many options if you are not into Greek cuisine.

There were 4 of us and we all wanted to try Greek food so my wife made a great suggestion. We ordered the family style dinner, which was about $30 per person, We shared 2 different appetizers, each had a salad, four different main main courses, a side, and a dessert assortment, plus coffee. This way we all tried a variety of items and there plenty of food for the 4 of us. Drinks were reasonable as well.

We loved the Saganaki & Melitzanosalata (apps), Greek salad, main courses of Sliced Roast Leg of Lamb, Spanakotiropita (Spinach Pie), Pork Souvlaki (kabob), Chicken Gyros and mixed vegetables (side). The dessert tray was Baklava, Galaktoburiko, and Karidopita.We were very impressed and highly recommend you go there for the dining experience!

Now the only frustrating part.They do not take reservations and when we arrived at 6:35 pm on a Saturday night, which I know is a busy time, we were told the wait would be 20-50 minutes for a party of 4, which was a pretty ambiguous estimate. We decided to stay and sit at the bar but there was limited seating there too and some of us had to stand. I understand that we came at the busiest time and staffing is an issues for everyone, but no one checked in with us the entire time we waited and I had to ask several times, which was disappointing. I just think there is a better way to handle and inform waiting patrons.

However, we totally enjoyed our dinner so I will give them a pass on this and return...

1 star as soon as we walked in to the door. There was an issue with our reservation to make a long story short. Party of 8. 6 of us were there and they refused to sit us or even give us a table buzzer! Host had his mask hanging off of one ear. UNPROFESSIONAL LOOK ! Either wear it proper or don't wear at all!

Fast forwarding a bit. The server was flustered. When we ordered, the server would take our paper menu from us and crunch it up to a ball and put them under his arm . Well, there were 8 of us so you could only imagine the mess the server got himself In...

Food was OK. Can't deny that it was tasty but not the best I've had from this place in the past... especially for the money paid.

At the end of it all a family member paid with their CC, server takes the card, Comes back a very uncomfortable time later.. then my family member reports a couple days later there was a strange charge on the card and someone paid their phone bill. Leave of this what you will, but kind of weird.
