I noticed this place when I was in the mall the day before. I have to say this mall has completely changed since I was here years ago. I looked them up online and they sounded like a good place for breakfast and I was hoping to get in at least one good breakfast while traveling. I arrived in the morning about an hour after they had opened and the tricky part for me was getting a parking space where I wouldn't have to walk too far because of the setup of the lot. I walked in and there was absolutely no one around but I only had to wait a moment before the host came out of the back and seated me. They gave me a menu and asked if I wanted any coffee or anything. I told him I needed a moment because the menu was bigger than I had expected. There were so many interesting items on the menu and I wasn't sure what to get. Bean is that I really can't eat potatoes anymore I bypassed several items that I would normally order. I finally decided to spoil myself and settled on their Chocolate Brioche French Toast. They top it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce. They use Magic Shell on the ice cream itself and there is also whipped cream with it. Be warned that this is an extremely rich and dense meal. I have to say that was probably about the best French toast I have ever had. To cut some of the sweetness I also got a side of their applewood smoked bacon. I also got apple juice to drink. I couldn't quite finish all of French toast but this was probably one of the best breakfasts I have had in many many years. The meal was not cheap but I felt it was worth it in the end.
I was a bit disappointed that I was the only one dining when I was there. When I left a few more people came in. I consider this to be a hidden gem at this point and I would definitely have breakfast here occasionally if I still lived in the area.
The waitress was friendly and attentive and I also had a visit from I believe the manager and she was quite nice and made sure I had everything and that I was enjoying my meal. If you are in the area give...
Read moreCalled in to place an order for pickup. The first time, I was told it would just be a minute and was placed on hold for over 10 minutes, so I hung up and called back. The second time, I was given the same line, waited for over 12 minutes, and then hung up. The third time, I asked the host if the restaurant could accommodate an order over the phone or not, and was told that I'd be placed on hold for about 5 minutes until a server was available to enter the order. After 3 calls and a wasted half hour attempting to place a simple order, I gave up and called a different restaurant, which took the order immediately without issue.
I understand that this is a new restatement and the staff all seem to be trying their best, but I've worked in hospitality and it has been my experience that ownership that spends all of its time on PR and writing saccharine responses to internet reviews instead of implementing a good service system usually has problems keeping establishments open. It's also a really, really, really bad sign when multiple reviews explicitly mention abusive and exploitive behavior of management with regard to FOH and BOH staff that is so typical of the industry.
You may believe that patrons don't know or care if you treat your staff with contempt as long as the food is good and the staff is friendly, but poor treatment of personnel comes through in all sorts of ways that usually end up curtailing the longevity of the...
Read moreFirst time here, as we were taking a family member to Lombard for cancer treatment. This is located inside the Yorktown Mall and visible from the parking lot.
Crisp and stylish decor with comfortable booths. Numerous food offerings and we ordered a variety of entrees.
Best entrees: chicken, bacon, and waffle combo. Plentiful, flavorful, and presented in an appetizing manner that blended the sweet and savory. Highly recommend!
Disappointing entree: biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and pancakes. Lots of food! However, biscuits were dry and gravy was smeared like butter instead of poured plentifully. Scrambled eggs covered the entire biscuits and gravy. Overall, palatable, yet will not order again. Did come with a side of mixed fruit that was delightful.
Great entree: corned beef hash was to die for! Chunky and tender cubes of corned beef cooked with shredded onions, hash browns, and green bell peppers that tasted sweet instead of bitter. Another highly recommend!!
Turn-off was 2 dirty coffee cups on the table. Apparently the tables are preset with coffee mugs. Need to ensure they are clean and not grimy or smudged. Server was indifferently apologetic, yet did bring 2 clean cups and the thermos full of coffee to leave at the table.
Total before top was just under $59. Decided this would be our...
