I'd heard about this place a little while back. I happened to be in Long Beach today and on my way heading home, I got very hungry. The Win-Dow was not out of the way, I'm not in LB often, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to give them a shot. This was the best decision I made all weekend.
The food was supremely delicious. It's a pretty streamlined menu (just take a look), which I often like. A restaurant that focuses on perfecting just a few small things tends to do well with me. They aren't breaking any new ground, they're smashburgers, but the quality and execution are off the charts. You really can taste the quality of the ingredients. Their house sauce is tremendous. I really loved this burger, my favorite first-time burger try in years. I absolutely loved the fries as well. Definitely shoestring, on the thinner side, but they nailed it----perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Often the thinner fries like this just end up more crunchy than crispy, but these were perfect. The best fries from a burger joint that I've had in a very, very long time. This is what In-N-Out I think is actually trying to achieve. I also got a lemonade, which again, you could taste the freshness and quality of. Very refreshing. I look forward to my return visit and enjoying a shake.
Service I thought was more than fine. The cashier and the guy who gave me my food at pickup were very friendly. The wait time was reasonable---about 10-12 minutes with a small crowd. Nothing to complain about.
The atmosphere is, well, whatever---but there's no inside space. It's a walk-up window. There are around 25 places to sit outside, it's all pretty basic. Just somewhere to sit and eat your food, exactly what you need. It's on the end of the main drag of 2nd street, so it doesn't quite get that ambiance of being part of 2nd street, but it's a very fine are to sit and eat. Pretty no frills but I think that's part of the point.
I think the pricing here is also very fair, especially for 2025. I'm not sure that you'll find a better double cheeseburger for $7.50. In fact, I'm rather confident that you won't.
Fresh, delicious, good price, good location, friendly employees, this place is a hit. Check it out, you will...
Read moreI've found myself wanting to try The Win-Dow in Venice, but never wanted to make the drive that badly for a burger, so I'm glad they have a location in Long Beach. I had the pleasure of indulging in The Win-dow last week. I'm not really into burgers, but I do find myself dabbling in the smash burger department of things. My friends on gone on their soft-opening. They enjoyed the burgers, fries, and the kale salad. They did say they didn't care too much for the chicken sandwich and the mint chocolate ice cream. The burger itself is decently priced at $4, while a double is priced at $7. I don't live too far from here, so I placed an order on their online system. If it's your first time here, don't make the same mistake I did. There's three windows - one for ordering, one for take-out after ordering, and the other on the opposite side (nearest to the parking lot) meant for online orders. My husband and I didn't park in the lot the lot, so I didn't see the other window until I was directed to it by the other person in the window. Service was decent, but I was blatantly ignored by one of the girls in the first window. She just looked at me, then walked the other way, then looked at me again, then walked away again. But thankfully, a second girl figured I was looking for the online ordering window and directed me to where I needed to go. There isn't any indoor or outdoor seating. You kind of just eat in your car or take it to go. The buns were nice and soft. I think they're potato buns. The patty was nice and flavorful. The burger itself kind of reminded me of a way better version of a McDonald's cheeseburger. I think it has to do with the diced onions and sauce. Like better quality everything! I had also ordered the jalapeno aioli to dip the fries in, which was tasty. The fries itself were nice and crispy - way better than In-N-Out. The parking lot has free parking, if you're able to snag a spot. Other than that, there's meter parking or residential parking if you're lucky. Definitely would want to go back for their kale salad! Just heard from my friends and my coworker that it was really good, so now I know what I'm eating for...
Read moreIt was opening day and even with the line service and food were great.
My double burger had crispy edges on the well flavored patties (as a smash burger should). The grilled onions and soft warm bun brought it all together.
The fries are slightly larger in diameter than McDonalds fries, but are just as crispy with a little less salt.
I'll add to this after going back to try the chicken sandwich and a shake.
I returned two days later (for dinner) and had a fried chicken sandwich, fries, a coke, and washed it all down with a s'mores milk shake. It was all part of my eat good food diet.
The fried chicken sandwich had a very soft bun, slaw, and a zesty, but not spicy jalapeño sauce. Avocado, cheese and extra sauce are optional.
I initially thought the chicken was too thin, but after the entire meal (but before the shake) I felt comfortably full. Though thin, it was good sized as you can see in the picture. The crispy chicken and slaw work well together.
The s'mores shake was want thick enough for me. Mostly because when they're not they tend to melt fast. The flavor was great, as it wasn't too sweet. At least not until I finished it. I pulled off the top to eat the graham cracker pieces at the bottom. Where there was also chocolate syrup. It was like having a dessert after dessert.
I'll...
