I was surprised by the 3.5/4 star consensus this place receives on here and yelp. We tried this place in new years day, as it was one of the only Chinese restaurants open to fill out craving. Ordered the family special A (for 3 people) online. Photos and menu made it seem like a "sit-down" restaurant but it's mostly your standard "to-go" based Chinese place with the entrees on display and you pick your carb and 1-2 entree plate as you walk down to the register, like Panda Express. The food looked old when we walked in. When we asked for our order, they indicated they didn't follow the confirmation process correctly when it came in through the eat24 app, so they just never made it. The young male gentleman's lack of care about not making our $30 and having it ready 20 minutes after its suppose to be ready shocked us. We asked for a refund, he disappeared in the back. Meanwhile a woman, older than him, was playing with a small printer and shouted she just received our order and will make it right now. She kept pushing us to just wait for the order, and wouldn't directly answer us when we asked how long will it take, simply stating "yeah I make it now."
The young man returned and they communicated. He brought us free eggrolls and water as we waited, which was nice. Upon first bite we realized we wouldn't be returning. The were bland and had an unpleasant flavor. The male employee seemed utterly apathetic, like he didn't want to be here. We watched customers walk in and just stand there waiting to be helped as he did other unimportant stuff. One lady asked how long it would take to just pick out her picks, he said his a couple minutes. She said she was in a hurry, he proceeded to answer the phone and take his time informing a customer of their store hours, in which he kept stating they'd be open "probably til 7," not exactly, understandably confusing the patron on the phone. The woman waiting inside walked out, he didn't even noticed.
The food came out, they both asked us the same questions twice about sauces and stuff. They lost our receipt again so we had to sign off a handwritten note. The portions were huge, as others have indicated. Definitely a place that favors quantity over quality. The fried rice was already a bit stale and super salty. The chow mein was unflavorful and lack much of anything but noodles that were undercooked. Their chicken Kung Pao had a texture Ive never seen: cheap and poorly flavored. It suffered from using really cheap chicken, the sauce was used to drown out the bland and chewy chicken. We threw away the additional egg rolls. Would not recommend this place. Unless you're seeking alot of cheap, gross, flavorless Chinese food with...
Read moreTien, thank you for providing EXCELLENT at-the-end-of-a-shift customer service. I have to have a soup type meal at least once every two months. Only being able to eat soup that night and having to deal with a problematic Uber Eats delivery situation, I'm glad Tien resolves the situation extremely well. The Vegan Spicy Ramen is decent. I think the broth can use an additional type of seasoning like Ginger or Turmeric, more spices, less salt. The noodles need a bit of air which usually twisting with a fork or chop sticks can create (to avoid noodles sticking together/settling so quickly, gives the noodles more fluff too, also, drier noodles are fine since broth comes with the meal). The Chow Mein tastes even better with the spicy sauce. The other parts of the meal are good and the meal tastes good altogether. I recommend giving one's taste buds a reset/time before eating between the Chow Mein and the Vegan Spicy Ramen: they have distinct flavors that I don't think mix well right...
Read moreI have been driving all the way to LA to Silverlake Ramen to go so I was super excited to find this place in my own neighborhood. I went on my third visit in two week and the service sucked. I walked in right before another customer and the guy at the counter made it a point to say hello to the customer behind me first while saying nothing to me. Then, he seemed to barely listen to my order. He then asked me what type of ramen noodles I wanted and I responded by stating that I wanted the regular noodles. He then mumbled that that thetr was more than one type of ramen noodle. I am new to thid whole ramen thing and did not know that and I certainly did not need him “educating” me witha bad attitude. There was no thank you or anything. Needless to say, I will gladly be making the trip to LA again for my ramen. You only need to piss me off once when I am spending my money and was not in the mood for the attitude and mediocre service where the food is...
