I was up in Longmont for a week visiting at the Longs Peak Hospital. Every night, by the time we were done visiting, nothing would be open in Westminster, except for the run the mill fast food joints.
Found several Chinese places in Longmont, but this was close to the hospital. Ordered around $50+ food and $5 tip. It seems after the Pandemic, Business Community seem to cry the blues, even though we didn't dine-in, we are supposed to tip. I do because I'm a bleeding softy liberal.
Ordered Spare ribs, Vietnamese Fried Spring Roll, Combination Lo Mein, and Combination Egg Foo Young. First, I almost passed up the place, because the sign was turned off and the lot was poorly lit, except for street light. It was rainy and difficult to see. My food was packed nicely in a box with couple of pair of chopsticks, hot oil and hot mustard, too. I felt compelled to tip, even though, we didn't dine-in.
Very tired, hungry, and its about 10:30 pm by the time we get home to Westminster. It was raining on and off, road constructions, etc. Finally, we warm up the food and sit down to eat. Frankly, I never had such disgusting Asian food in my life.
The ribs were long slender with barley any meat on them and tasted like nothing I'd ever tasted - trashed $11 of Ribs. Looking forward to the Vietnamese Fried Egg roll. It was ghastly! The egg roll was dry and chewy, tasted like - don't know what. This fish sauce was atrocious - trashed $7 worth of egg rolls.
Ok, maybe the chef's having a bad evening. We move onto the Combination Egg Foo Young. The omelette was greasy and dried. Instead of the omelette being cooked with all the ingredients, the ingredients were simply stir fried and put into a soup container. Needless to say, it just wasn't edible at all! We trashed $ 15. Moved onto the final entree, Combination Lo Mein. The taste was there, but the noodles were so over cooked I couldn't get my self to eat it. It wasn't edible at all! It's still in the fridge, but I'm sure that it will end up being trashed - $15.
I've eaten at many, many places and variety of dishes, but Man oh Man, this was absolutely disgusting. I did give them couple of stars for their service, because the lady was polite, packed the food nicely, and provided the condiments that we asked for. I hope that others fair much better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter perusing the reviews of local spots for egg drop soup, this seemed like the best place to check out! I had high hopes for the quality of this restaurant, but there were a few downsides that were tough to overlook. The main dish we were looking forward to, their egg drop soup, was severely lacking in flavor.
As for the remaining contents of our order, it was undeniably disappointing. Their Vietnamese spring rolls were difficult to chew as they consisted of pork pieces that had an extremely off-putting texture as well as taste. The unique rendition of fish sauce that accompanied them was the most repulsive part, as it made the entire order reek of a very unpleasant smell not to mention the abhorrent, expired taste. The fried egg rolls were mushy and subpar for the price point. The ācrab cheese rangoonsā were merely cheese; both their menu and the employee over the phone who confirmed that they had crab cheese rangoons were a bit misleading. Not bad, just simply not what we ordered/expected either. Lastly, we tried the chicken egg fried rice. The chicken was unseasoned and there were no eggs to be found, but it was okay. The flavors may not have been for us at this restaurant, but Iām sure they might suit other peopleās preferences! (Although, I am a fan of dishes from other Asian restaurants.)
That said, the amiable service combined with the cozy atmosphere when I picked up the order were the most redeeming takeaways from our experience at Spicy House. While I donāt plan on making a return here anytime soon, they were extremely sweet in addressing my review and even took the time to kindly elaborate upon their Vietnamese...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDecided to try Spicy House on a whim. Liked the 4.2 average rating, but only 5 reviews. Still, it was worth a shot.
I have driven by here dozens of times without even a glance, and as a previous reviewer stated, the ambiance leaves a bit to be desired. The interior could use some updating, and there is no "Chinese" restaurant ambiance. It's pretty much white linoleum floor tiles, vinyl booths, and formica tables. clean, but not what one would expect. I was a little hesitant when we walked in, but steeled myself anyway. Only one drawback of our entire experience: they only serve sodas in cans oh and no alcohol, but the water is pretty good.
The food... Wow! We were stunned! First, for the usual $8.95 you pay at most other Chinese/Asian food restaurants, you get a MOUND of food! And it ALL tasted really good! We ordered the orange chicken, Mongolian beef, beef lo mein, and Panang curry beef. We also had the hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, and won ton soup. They bring fried won ton strips out for your soup, if you want it. Nothing was meh, it was all really, really good! We had leftovers for days!
Overall, you won't be disappointed. Give them a try. And bring your appetite or plan on taking some home for the...
