Vernie's pre-pandemic was a very unique place. An americana-themed pizza joint that did pretty good pizza, by the standards of the area (nothing will blow you away if you've had all time great pizza but it's really one of the better pizzas in town and well priced) and fortunately located enough to attract both early birders and what passes for a power lunch crowd in Longview if you're not going somewhere like the office 842 or cassava, local business owners and members of local government stopping over at each others' tables. This is because it's a local gathering place, that people of all ages have birthday parties at, that employs some of the mark morris high school kids and really did keep the vibe of a 1980s movie alive.
In the pandemic times they have become an essential drive through stop, providing the same consistently good pizza via their window, and in their efforts to promote #MaskUpWA are, at the time of me writing this, offering 10% off your order if you wear a mask at the drive through window, to help both you and their employees who are also required to wear masks, stay safe.
They really make doing the right thing easy. Try their stuffed bread sticks, you cannot go wrong with these handmade, surprisingly affordable and filling creations. They're more like mini calzones or like a pocket sandwich made from pizza dough, baked and covered in a parmesan dusting, than a breadstick, and I love them, and I haven't seen quite the same thing anywhere else, despite having eaten pizza from...
Read moreHey Doug. Did you accidentally review this place? Let me correct that. Did you accidentally not leave a review thinking it was a review? I mean, I get it. You have fingers. Your phone lets you do things. Occasionally, those fingers and that phone get into a fight. The result? Nothing. I mean that; nothing. You basically posted a non-review. Felt good? Great. But you added nothing. So, why?
Vernie's remains as Vernie's was and will likely continue to be. Solidly above-average. Not fancy. Filling. Priced well. You don't go there for ambience. Or, maybe you do. I don't. The staff has always ranged from attentive, to somewhat attentive, to aloof, to stoned-out-of-their-gourd. I mean, this is a pizza joint in Longview.
The Meatsa is a heart-stopper. The Veggie is, if you ask them and every other NW joint to stop with the slices of fresh tomatoes, a win for the rabbit crew. The Taco? I hate taco pizza. But I eat it here. I think it might have to do with their generic (Sysco's Casa Salano) sauce and almost/sometimes stale off-brand chips.
This is a tradition for my group. We go here every year. We will keep doing so. Vernie's, don't change. Doug, try writing something. Start with a subject, add a verb, and go to town! Who knows? It might actually turn into a fully...
Read moreThe service has some issues. I'm not going to call it poor service, but I will call it kind of disinterested service. I watched them put my pie up on the finished rack. I wasn't sure it was mine so I didn't say anything. There was a gaggle of people running around looking busy, but not one person stopped and took a look at the rack to check on the load of boxes on that rack. Five minutes I watched my pie up there. The poor guy running the cash register finally broke away from some customers to say my order was ready. This is the second time I have been left hanging here at Vernies. The Pizza was good, for the money, The Restaurant is clean, but something is missing. One other note and this was an issue last time. There are several men with beards working there that do not cover them while in the cooking area. This is a no go with me. My wife who is a Pizza Manager mentioned this last time we were there to someone. That right there is a no go. The Pizza is good but I'm not sure I will...
