Not even bad....just okay. Which seems like a low bar for a place selling t-shirts hyping one of those sandwiches. I didn't hate it, but considering how many options there are in Los Altos "Okay" was a disappointment. Also: this is very much a sandwich shop, not a real deli. Which is (again) okay, but not exciting.

Read the good reviews and decided to give this a try. Ordered the the meatball sandwich on Dutch crunch roll. Unfortunately, they microwaved the sandwich, I guess to heat up the meatballs. Well, the Dutch crunch was not crunchy anymore, instead was soft and chewy, totally destroyed the texture and flavors. Very disappointed!

In A Nutshell:

-Been coming to American Italian Deli off/on since 2007. -If you're in the mood for a satisfying sandwich, you should order their all-time great "The Godfather". -I enjoy the sandwich using sourdough bread w/ the soft insides removed to reduce the calorie intake. They also have some other great items like pasta salads & lasagne.

I would walk to this local sandwich shop for lunch. Cute deli ambiance and brings character to downtown Los Altos. Great Sandwich suggestions, but also able to order what ever sandwich you like. The coleslaw and macaroni salad are homemade and it is amazing. A little on the higher price for a sandwich, but you are supporting local business and keeping this great little spot open, so...
