Alfred Coffee — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I can’t rate the food, because it wasn’t received. We ordered two bagels and a shot of coffee. The guy making the coffee was polite and had my dad’s coffee ready within the first 3 minutes. After 15 minutes of waiting for the bagels, I politely inquired as to how long toasting the bagel would take. They told me when I paid that I would spread the topping myself (fine by me), so I didn’t understand the prep time. The guy told me it takes time for a bagel to toast. We’ve all used a toaster— it doesn’t take 15 minutes. A few minutes later the guy prepping the food came back out of the back to tell me that they didn’t have any of the topping I’d paid extra for. I said “That’s ok, cream cheese is fine, but I should’ve been told before I paid extra.” I had a very plain tone, no attitude whatsoever. I wasn’t even asking for the difference in money, just giving feedback. He snapped at me that he “wouldn’t deal with any sass and you can leave” He then immediately turned around and returned to the back before my father could get any assurances of a refund. We left and will be filing a claim with the bank, because we didn’t want to argue. I know we all have bad days, but it’s unfair to take that out on a customer just trying to go about their day. I ended up going hungry because I didn’t have time to sit in another cafe...

Very disappointing. Tastes like they get their burritos from the gas station, and coffees from the slurpy factory. Their ‘world famous’ cloudy/foam one is quite frankly pure sugar!

Also, the Staff seemed overwhelmed - and that they ‘knew the issues’…..

You know when you see the ‘tell’ reaction of the staff RE when you ask about an issue with the service? In this case it was could we ‘hold the potatoes’ in the burrito and also why they had run out of everything other than steak burrito at 8.30am already (!?!?). They weren’t able with either as they pre make the burritos obviously the night before (not fresh).

Even the staff know it’s a poor set up, and you know it’s a poor set up and so they give you that ‘half sorry/half I know it’s a dumb AF situation’ grimace.

Coffee was also stood there for ten mins - had asked if it was mine as I first saw it there and they said it wasn’t….

Really underwhelming experience had much...

My friend used to hit this spot every Saturday for bagels — it was her little weekend ritual. But that changed real quick after she bit into her sandwich and found a whole clump of mud and sprouted roots buried in the greens. Like… straight out the ground. We’re talking full-on soil plug, roots and all.

That’s beyond nasty. She showed me the pics and I damn near gagged.

Then they’re gonna respond all late af and offer a refund, plus a $25 coupon like, “hey, come back and maybe next time we’ll leave the mud out?” Mannnnnn. Be serious. That’s a whole joke and a half. FOH.

Look, the spot might be cute and have good coffee, but if you’re not even rinsing your greens?!?! I don’t trust what else is happening in that kitchen.

After this, she’s done with them. And honestly, I don’t blame her. Somebody might need to alert the health department because...
