I found the company through a google search. I looked at multiple Los Angeles catering companies, and found Bite Catering to be the best one suited for my event. I loved how their website was so easy to understand, and I could independently calculate how much everything would cost, and what services were available. Great setup there.
I ended up hiring Bite Catering Couture for my 50th birthday celebration (about 20 people) at my friend's home, and they delivered promptly, were very professional, and kept me updated on status of food, leading up to the day.
As for the food itself, it was FANTASTIC and perfect for what I wanted. 1-2 bite appetizers, some more substantial than others (mini burgers vs small puffs with goat cheese). My favorites were: The whipped goat cheese/olive tapenade on top of puff pastry, the fruit platter was amazing and fresh and delicious. To quote Willy Wonka, "The Strawberries taste like strawberries!!!".. :)
The lime coconut satay dipped in peanut sauce skewers were perfect. And the mac'n'cheese bites, dipped in an aioli were delish as well. Their sauces were perfectly matched to the food bites.
The slow roasted tomato and herb tarts were delicious and had a very flaky pastry. I love goat cheese & tomato so these were a favorite of mine. And surprisingly, the caprese skewers (which had olive oil/balsamic for dipping) was gorgeous! That one surprised me how good it was.
I personally polished off the rest of the Herb Mediterranean shrimp (dipped in lemon basil aiola) at the end of the night. So good! And the mini BBQ bacon cheeseburgers were perfect for those people looking for something more traditional and hearty.
They have a good amount of gluten free and also vegan options, which was great because all the people at my party could then partake of the food. They also have options to purchase room temperature foods, and also foods that need to be heated. Both of these are delivered refrigerated. I purchased half room temp, and another half that needed to be heated for up to 8 minutes in the oven. The trays they were delivered in were ready to heat in the oven (once the cover was removed). So, getting the food set up was a breeze.
All in all a great experience. Definitely would order from them again. Thank...
Read moreWorking with Robin and Bite Catering has been nothing short of frustrating. I contacted Bite Catering yesterday and requested a price sheet / sample invoice for our upcoming wedding. Robin responded and advised that "all of our invoices and pricing are custom to our client's needs," so she could not send a sample invoice. Understood. So I agreed to set up a phone appointment to go over our "vision," hoping that the additional details I provide will help her price everything out based on our needs.
During our phone call, I told Robin that I am interested in getting the Latin-Inspired Buffet Dinner for our wedding (featured on their website) and asked if she could price out that menu for a 150-person wedding. She kept emphasizing that putting together a comprehensive invoice is labor intensive, and she would not be able to do so without getting a better idea of what it is I want for the wedding. So, I walked her through the entire menu, told her which dishes I want to include / exclude, and she was still reluctant to put together a proposal! When she advised that the cost would be around $65 / person, I told her I was comfortable with that price. However, I would still want to see a complete proposal (with labor costs included). She then said "we are a boutique caterer, and we don't compete on price." I just told you I am comfortable with the price. Is it that unreasonable that I want to see a complete proposal before I sign with a caterer?
I don't understand why there was so much resistance on her end to provide something that every other caterer has been willing to provide without hesitation! Sounds to me like laziness - she doesn't want to do the work if I can't guarantee I will go with Bite Catering for our wedding. Well, I can't guarantee I will go with Bite Catering without seeing an invoice.
There is a lot of competition in the wedding / catering industry. If you can't do something as simple as provide a proposal, then how can you expect potential customers to trust that you will be able to deliver on the day of?

Read moreBelow is a copy of the letter I sent to Elizabeth the day after Bite Catering in LA did an absolutely incredible job on our son’s 30th birthday bash. We live in Oregon, so I was concerned about hiring and working with a caterer long distance, but Elizabeth and her team excelled in every way - both leading up to and during the event!
Good morning to you, Elizabeth! Your team was UH-MAZ-ING!!! It was the first time in a looooong time that I was surrounded by so much incredible food that I completely disregarded the fact that 1) I really shouldn’t do dairy (who in their right mind can just IGNORE your macaroni-and-cheese bites??!) 2) my doctor has encouraged me to go low carb (can you say “homemade pita chips” and “s’more bites”????), and 3) the human body is truly only built to accommodate a certain quantity of food in one evening (at 5’2”, I’m pretty sure I left the building last night wider than I am tall....). I also wanted to take Brittany, Matt, and Bruce back to Oregon with us, but figured that there are probably some ridiculous laws against crossing state lines with kidnapped caterers...such a bummer (now that I think about it, I’d probably leave Bruce behind. He actually tried to withhold my beloved hummus from me!) EVERYONE raved about the food. Their only complaints were the same as mine... “But WHY CAN’T I have 18 potstickers, 13 sliders, 42 mac-n-cheese bite, three cups of hummus, 19 pita chips, and nine of each dessert?? WHYYYYY!!!!!!!” Okay, I’ll stop whining. I’m sure you get tired of the constant barrage of ongoing complaints similar to mine... Thank you, thank you for creating a team that went above and beyond in making my son’s surprise party such a grand success.
And please tell Brittany that Bite’s edamame hummus and hand-made pita chips should definitely be added to the All-Time-Best-Breakfasts list!!!
With addicted adoration - Heidi for...
