Broken Engrish is a bit of a hidden gem just outside of Hollywood proper, but if you want to get some interesting vegetarian/vegan Taiwanese cuisine, this is worth exploring.
The best dish is the Stewed Jackfruit "Beef" Noodle Soup. It is a hearty noodle soup that can easily fool any meat eater when it comes to the savory broth with the traditional Taiwanese 5-spice stew. The jackfruit may not be beef, but it is just as savory and has surprisingly good texture. The noodle is nice and chewy, as well.
The 2nd best dish is the Braised Minced "Pork" on Rice. The "pork" is Beyond Meat made with avocado oil and served with rice, house-pickled daikon that is a must to balance the flavor, tea-marinated egg (tofu substitute available), and green onions. The daikon really is the key to add interest to the flavor which is delicious but a bit one-note without the daikon. Still though, it is yummy, just ask for extra daikon.
The skirt potstickers are delicious and also taste like your normal potstickers, so you can't go wrong with them. No notes.
The Bok-Choy is pretty good, but not really my choice of vegetables in general. Everyone else still enjoyed it though.
Lastly, I only wish I saw the Chili Oil early on. I bet it would make all these dishes taste even better! It is essential for enjoying Taiwanese cuisine...

Read moreFound this little gem of a restaurant after a visit to Universal Studios. My husband and I loved the food and chill atmosphere especially after a busy park day. The owner is friendly and helpful in navigating food options for first timers like us to Taiwanese cuisine. Everything we tried was amazing! Meat eater approved flavor and texture for these vegetarian dishes. We had for main dishes the dan dan noodles and braised minced “pork” on rice that were the stars of the night, marinated seaweed and spicy dumplings were good sides, and the double chocolate shake made from homemade ice cream for dessert was a total win for me - just the perfect amount of sweet. I love how good everything was for the taste buds and for a happy belly. Will definitely dine in when in the area again … and maybe bring some friends to share the...
