Okay, we’re vegetarians, so if you’re going to name your restaurant Vegetable, odds are we’re going to show up at some point. And so we did! Twice even…this most recent time was on Mother’s Day for brunch! I had the Maple Sriracha Hash Skillet…All four of those words are things which make me want to order a dish. I really enjoyed it…it has a spice to it but it was just the right amount to be a presence without taking away from the edibility of the dish. We got the grilled cheese for our kid without the tomato basil compote which I’m sure would have been awesome for our adult palettes, but not for our 9 year old. (And they weren’t willing to put it on the side. It says right on the menu “All modifications politely declined.” That’s probably our least favorite thing to read on menus. If you’re a person with a particular diet restriction, or a combination of diet restrictions, you often need to be able to change or modify an item so you actually eat it. For a place that is so clearly catering towards vegetarians, vegans, and with lots of gluten free items available, it was definitely disappointing to see this policy. That having been said, for the sake of our kid we were happy they were willing to serve the grilled cheese without the compote.) My wife got the Smothered Cruciferous Breakfast Scramble which she thought great and which came with, as she described “crazy good” cornbread. The coffee was good too. (Kind of an essential of you’re serving brunch!) It was served in a French press for three people, and the two of us coffee drinkers did very well with that. (And they put a little hour glass timer on the table to give us an indication of the recommended brewing time.) Our kids thought the strawberry lemonade was the best thing he ever had in his life. He also thought the lentil soup he got was really good. The space and food was comfortable. The server was friendly and we’ll be back.

The restaurant has a lovely rustic feel to it, with hewn wooden tables, a long communal table and several booths and high tops. I got there 30 minutes before the end of lunch service and was greeted by a friendly young lady who promptly seated me, have me a menu and some water. She explained the menu, daily specials and then gave me some time to look it all over. I went with the lunch special which is $20 and includes a soup, and two dishes. The butternut squash soup was exquisite. It had a beautiful texture and a hearty depth to it that had an earthy flavor. Not too sweet and nicely balanced. The skillet was nice, wth a fried egg on top, but I felt it lacked flavor. The fingerling potatoes were very substantial, and had a nice mix of slightly burnt and just right potatoes smothered with a cashew cheese and coconut cream. The combo was much too much food for me and unfortunately you can't share it, but if you've got a healthy appetite it should be just right! I'll come back to try a couple of other items, but I like the ambience and the service, si definitely a winner. If you like the review, please leave me a thumbs up to let me know... 😉

A beautiful restaurant with nice food, but I'm uncertain the food deserves as much praise as other reviews seem to give. This might be because I am not giving bonus points for having so many vegan/gf options. Nonetheless, it seems like it would make a solid lunch-spot or casual night out, but will not impress someone seeking out stellar cuisine. Quaint and casual decor with great attentive table service. The menu is rather large and could probably use some refining or curation since some dishes seemed a bit redundant. The food had a beautiful presentation and seemed relatively thoughtful and well put together, but lacked the heart and craft of some of the better restaurants in the LA food scene. A touch over seasoned and sweetened in a few dishes made me wish they let the (presumably) fresh ingredients do more of the work in bringing flavor.

Do I ever need to go to Vegetable again? Probably not. If invited I would attend happily, and I would order dishes with more spekticism. Our experience had highs and lows. We arrived starving after a day at universal and ordered way to much food, but that's a good thing because we got to try loads of options. When I asked the server 2 questions. What is the most popular ordered dish and what was her personal favorite she answered with the lasagna and the corn cakes. We ordered both plus the tomato soup, biscuits with gravy, and one more item that was so not memorable because I have forgotten. The biscuits and gravy were the best thing we served to us. They we're full of flavor, perfect proportion and delicious. The lasagna was the worst thing we ordered, in fact we left 3/4 of it behind on the plate. The lasagna was served remotely cold, with way to much nut cheese and just no real flavor, nothing reminiscent of lasagna at least. The corn cakes were decent, not great by any means, soggy after sitting in the broth. The soup was way too sweet and not from the tomatoes, suspect, and with a laughable sprinkle of basil that amounted to 6 fingernail cuttings. Not being able to see the kitchen or any food preparation made this experience feel foreign and cosmetically awkward. When we we're ordering the server told us that the lasagna and corncakes (the entrees) would take 30 minutes. So we ordered them at the same time as the apps. Then they came out literally less than 2.5 minutes later. They didn't space our food. They served them with our apps so they just sat there getting cold and soggy and it made for a very cramped table. I just changed my review from 3 to start as I remembered that fact. The whole...

I’m a local and ordered take out here for the first time today! Im extremely happy I did! I’m a vegetarian and I haven’t had a meal this delicious and satisfying in a long long time. I got the mushroom philly burger and tomato bisque soup. The “burger” was so delicious and flavorful! It comes with sautéed onion and red peppers that were super flavorful! You can tell they don’t just sauté them plain, there’s definitely a good marinade on them that lasts. I appreciated the QUALITY of the ingredients. Seems like the chefs and kitchen staff know how to cook up delicious ingredients which is hard to find sometimes at cafes/casual dining places. Im picky about my vegetables too and them being fresh and organic. I’m not sure if the ones they cook here are organic but they definitely taste like they are! I appreciate the fresh vegetables on my burger (including the delicious home made pickles) and the sautéed mushrooms with the cashew cheese! I ate the whole burger faster than I have any other which is saying a lot from a person who is picky and often doesn’t have an appetite! Also the staff here were extremely warm and it was a welcoming atmosphere...The kind woman who was waiting tables and took my take out order offered me water while I waited for my food which was very nice! Thank you to the staff here and I just want to say I highly recommend trying...
